Kundapur, Mar 18: Though there is no scope for sand mining in Udupi still, illegal sand mining is in progress. Kundapur rural police station sub-inspector Sridhar Naik and staff, after receiving definite information,raided illegal sand mining den at Varahi lake, J M Road, Kavradi village here on Sunday, March 17. Four suspects were arrested. Two pick up vehicles, a Maruti Omni car, sand, mobiles and cash were confiscated from them.

The arrested persons are Nisar Ahmed(32), Khalifa Khalid (30), Khalifa Khureshi(46) and Harish(48).

Some other suspects named Karani Bilal, Sameer, Afan and Mutayib fled from the spot.

The suspects were extracting sand from J M Road, Kandlur and selling it.

Four mobiles worth Rs 20,000, cash amount of Rs 37.000, about three units ordinary sand in sacks, two pick up vehicles, Omni van, boat used for sand mining are the confiscated items.

Police have registered a case.
