Dubai: 42nd edition of India Club UAE Open Badminton tourney to start on Apr 2

Dubai, Mar 15: The 42nd edition of the India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament this year will be presented by Friends Provident International and is scheduled to commence from April 2 at India Club, Dubai.

The tournament, which started in the year 1978, is open to all the players from the UAE as well as from abroad. There is no restriction on players from outside the UAE to participate at their own will but they will have to comply with the tournament schedule.

The last 3 editions of India club UAE Open Badminton have been given Four Star Rating in the Sports Events Ranking System by Dubai Sports Council.

The tournament this year will comprise of 35 categories. The age categories have been streamlined based on the International Badminton Federation regulations which are followed across the UAE and the region.

The finals of the tournament are scheduled for May 3. Cash prizes, trophies, air tickets and gift hampers amounting to around AED 50,000 will be the highlight of the prestigious ‘42nd India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament 2019’ presented by Friends Provident International.

Players in the Men, Ladies, Boys & Girls categories will compete for top honors in the following 35 categories:

The Lady Partner should be above 18 years of age for Masters and Veterans Mix Doubles.

Also the ages of the participants shall be considered as on December 31, 2018 and whole year is considered as per BWF format.

All the matches will be played in line with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rules and regulations.

As in the past, the Tournament is expected to attract a large number of players of different nationalities from the UAE.

As part of India Club’s drive towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as in the previous years, exhibition matches will be conducted for the Special Needs Children / Individuals. Also, invitations will be sent to ‘SNF Center’ and ‘Smart Life’ NGO of labour camps seeking participation. Mementos and certificates will be awarded to all the participants in the Special Needs & Blue Color Labour categories.

Li-Ning will be providing Discount Vouchers @ 50% to all winners, 30% to all runners up and 15 % to all the tournament participating players redeemable at the Li-Ning retail outlet.

On week days, the matches will commence from 7 pm and on Fridays from 10am onwards. One of the most exciting thing in this year tournament is that all the matches will be streamed Live on YouTube.

As in the past, each player will be restricted to participate only in three events. This is basically to give opportunity for more players to make it to the top.

The Main Sponsor of the event is Friends Provident International, Equipment Partner is Li-Ning, Media Partner is SUNO 1024 and the co-sponsors are Aarushi Designs, Supervision Optical, Carrera Sunglasses, Leone Tea & Polaroid Sunglasses.

Entry forms are available on www.tournamentsoftware.com. The link is also available on India Club website www.indiaclubdubai.com. No Entry forms will be accepted via Fax or email (scanned copy) or in person. All participants are requested to use on-line entry forms only. Payment for the entries submitted should be made by March 28.

Last year, 636 entries were registered in the 28 categories. Expat players from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Indonesia, South Africa, China, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, Bahrain, Malaysia, Denmark and Singapore took part in the tournament.

The Badminton Organizing Committee headed by Sunil Singh and comprising of Wales Thomas, Suresh Menon and Girish Chand will oversee the tournament along with the volunteers while Vivek Kelshiker is the sports secretary and Sudip Gupta is the joint sports secretary of India Club.
