Mysuru, Mar 13: The quick action of Karnataka police in apprehending the culprit, who sexually harassed a girl in the bus, is lauded by one and all.

The complainant has expressed her gratitude to PSI Pooja of Lashkar police station in the city on twitter. The tweet made by the complainant says, “A big thank you to PSI Pooja of Lashkar police station for finding the culprit who molested me, in less than 48 hours of lodging a complaint. Police personnel like this help to restore our faith in the legal system. Thank you again.” This tweet has received 100 likes within a short time.

PSI Pooja and complainant

The complainant, a native of Kodagu and a student of Mysuru University, was travelling to Mysuru by the KSRTC Airavat bus. The accused man, who is 50-years-old, who was sitting on the seat that was behind that of the complainant groped her repeatedly. The girl picked up an argument with the man in the bus condemning his behavior. But surprisingly, no one supported the young lady. Moreover, the driver and conductor of the bus also did not go to her rescue.

The bold complainant did not give up. She brought this incident to the notice of senior officials of KSRTC and then to the police commissioner of Mysuru. DCP Muthuraju, DCP of law and order, who works in the commissioner’s office of the city, transferred the case to Lashkar police station. PSI Pooja of Lashkar police station acted swiftly to trace the culprit and caught the offender.

Thank you for publishing this story. Firstly I wish KSRTC trains its drivers and conductors on how to respond to situations like this. Instead of being mute spectators, it’d be of great help to do something about the situation. Secondly, I urge all the people out there to dial 100 the moment any incident like this happens. That call will go a long way in acting as first evidence and will be helpful to nab the culprit. Lastly, to that person who thinks that I might have “falsely accused” the molester, please note that 99% of cases of harassment against women goes unreported so your statistics of women lodging a false complaint is extremely minuscule. That being said, the way our society judges a woman for speaking out against abuse is majorly portrayed in a negative light. So if I am making a huge scene in the bus and lodging a complaint, fully knowing that I am the one losing out on respect, you better be sure that I am risking it all to expose an abuser.
To the rest of you, thank you for your appreciative comments.

My hats off to PSI Pooja of Lashkar Police Station. I have no words to express for the bold, and brilliant job done by Ashika Appaiah native of Kodagu and a student Mysore University. Your Twitter handle did a fantastic job in apprehending the molester. I am proud of both of you and also the police department. God bless all of them. But I am ashamed that nobody travelling in the same bus did not help that student.

Don't jump into conclusion ! Nowadays argument related to any other subject, turns out to be sexual harassment. We have come across so many dowry cases, later found out to be false.

As many as 31,292 cases of alleged cruelty by husbands and in-laws, filed by women under Section 498A of the IPC between 2011 and 2013, were found false or mistake of fact or law after a police investigation

It is exceedingly surprising that the bus driver and the conductor did take any actin against the guilty person and that the passengers were silent spectators.

Kudos to the PSI who managed the nab the culprit within 48 hours.

Congrats to the young lady too who did not hesitate to inform the Police.
