Mangaluru: Agnesian Alumni Association celebrates Women's Day, honours eight young achievers

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The Agnesian Alumni Association celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 at St Agnes College.

The alumni members inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp, symbolising the importance of womanhood, and the need for gender equity.

The guests of honour were Sr Dr Jeswina, principal, St Agnes College and Geanette D’Souza, president of Alumni Association, vice-president, Saramma Jayaraj, secretary and Vivid D’Souza, the treasurer.

The illustrious alumni of the association honoured eight young student achievers of St Agnes College.



Meghana, III BA, a visually handicapped student who excelled in academics, with a distinction was honoured by Edith D’Souza.

Ladleen Janisha Monteiro, III BCom, student president for 2018-19, was conferred the Agnesian Outstanding Leader of the Year Award. The award was instituted by Carol Pais Coelho in honour and memory of her parents, Philip and Mariette Pais.

The award for the Most Talented Student of the Year went to Navya Margaret of III BA. This award is instituted by Marjorie Texiera.

The Agnesian Scholar of the Year Award went to Tania Leena D’Souza, III BCom. The Award has been instituted by Dr Meera Aranha.

Lashwitha, III BCom, was the recipient of the Agnesian Sports Woman Award, instituted by Daisy Menezes Coelho.

The Agnesian award in the field of NSS was awarded to Shikshitha of III BCom. This award was sponsored by Usha Fernandes.

Agnesian award for the best NCC cadet was awarded to Swathy Shetty, III BSc. This award has been sponsored by Saramma Jayaraj.

The Agnesian Outstanding Multitalented Performer Award was bagged by Manasvi Rao II MA. This award has been sponsored by Lyra Pinto.

The Awardees were presented with sashes, mementoes, certificates and flowers. Sr Dr Jeswina addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the day.

On behalf of the Awardees, Ladleen Janisha Monteiro expressed her gratitude. Geanette D’Souza, vice-president rendered the vote of thanks.

Usha Fernandes compered the programme. The programme ended with the national anthem.
