Mangaluru: ‘Charles Nite’ enthralls music lovers at Gurpur

Mangaluru, Mar 12: The parish council of Our Lady of Pompei Church Gurpur organised musical event ‘Charles Nite’ recently at the church quadrangle in aid of various church projects. The nite was enjoyed by hundreds from the parish and neighboring parishes.

Charles D’Cunha, a parishioner, who presently lives in Mumbai, was encouraged and trained in music during his childhood by Fr J S T Rodrigues, who was the then parish priest of Gurpur church. As a talented youngster, he initiated the choir of parish and became the first choir master. He has composed music for parts of Mass and many hymns. He has composed many songs and sang on stage for various cultural events.

There was a short stage programme in which Fr Teji Thomas and Sr Jhansi, recipients of Sandesha Award 2019 were honoured by the parish priest. 

Charles D’Cunha was also honoured for his contribution to music.

Charles Nite at Gurpur was presented along with six finalists of ‘Mozo Thalo Gaitholo’ and some budding talents of the parish. Ivan Sequeira and Denis Gonsalves were the guest singers. The melodious and mind blowing music was rendered by famous duo Pappan and Josvin with their team of talented musicians. Sound and lights were by famous Chris Electronics, Mangaluru. Rib tickling comedy by Aroma, Royston and Jeevan and dances by Rashmi, Genevia and Melisha enthralled the audience. The event was compered by Melvin Peres, Kaikamba in his unique style. There was spontaneous applause from the audience after every performance.

The fans, relatives and friends of Charles and parishioners presently living abroad had generously contributed for the cause and supported for the success of the nite.
