Karkala: Illegal sand transportation - ASP takes lorry owner to task for offering bribe

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (MS)

Karkala, Mar 12: In a rare to hear incident that occurred on Sunday, March 10 at Sanoor near here the owner of the lorry that was carrying the sand illegally was taken to task by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for offering the bribe.

ASP of the town H Krishnakanth stopped a lorry that was carrying sand from Maravoor to the town at Sanoor. The owner of the lorry, who arrived at the spot within no time in his Swift car, asked the ASP to release the lorry and said he would pay whatever needed to be paid to release the lorry. It is said that the ASP, who got furious at the lorry owner's audacity, took him to the station and taught him a proper lesson through lathi and also made him to sit in the station till evening.

The ASP was not in his uniform and was using a private car when he stopped the said lorry. So the owner of the lorry who was following the lorry could not identify the ASP. It is also learnt that even the police were not aware of this operation, which was done secretly by ASP Krishnakanth.

Frst thing we notice here is police was not in uniform.may be he wanted to catch culprits in civil. It is ok second he had taken the owner of the lorry to station and hit him with lathi. Can he do it?Does he have a permission to do so ,mishandle offender?Police in India handle people like animals.Lorry owner can file a complaint was aagainst him as he mishandled him when not on duty/or not in uniform. But this ASP is exemplar.never heard before such case.

Unless we know the motives of Our ASP, we can't judge. I think ASP has some grudge issue.

there is no mistake from owner side, we used to it. drive without license and pay rs 50 and u r free, include beef menu in your function and pay 10-15k to police and u r free. cut govt. forest tree and pay around 20-30k to forest officers and u r free. may be he offered less as sand has the value of gold now a days. if not ASP has taken money from his competitor. something is fishy in this case. we don't expect sincerity now a days. its a word in dictionary. not real.

So next time we can use lati if any police men demand for bribe. Law should be same for all. does ASP has the rights to beat a person on this charge if no book him and he should also get the same test of lati.
tomorrow traffic police also beat you if you wont ware helmet or brake some traffic rules.

ASP knows the best what treatment to be administered to law breakers and does not require expert advice.

    Dear Chandu, Karla

This is not gunda raj or banana republic to ASP to decide. there is law in this land which is to be followed by all.

Here 2 things can been seen.
ONE- ASP doing good work ,appreciation.
TWO- why ASP use private car and targeted only one particular lorry, Is rival owner paid him enough bribe, How can he use Lathi for bribery only if rival group has told ASP to do so.

Lorry owners has been doing this for a long time but this time it did not work. Is ASP has the mandate to use lathi power in bribary case? When ASP's men take demand or receive bribe who is empowered to use lathi? If ordinary citizen cannot use lathi for bribary where does the ASP get the legal right to do so?
Bribary is a cancer of our society. Political goondas are used to buy police officers. If the lorry owner was a minister would the ASP use lathi? Why our MPs and MLAs get away with murder and sand ladden lorry owner cannot transport sand by greasing the palm? Tackle first the big political robbers and only then the lorry owners.
