ICYM Udupi deanery organises 'Ignito' at St Anthony Church Kuntalnagar

Udupi, Mar 11: 'Ignito' an interparish youth programme was organized by the ICYM deanery here at St Anthony Church Kuntalnagar.

Quiz, treasure hunt and dodge ball competitions and road safety awareness programme were arranged for the youth of the deanery on March 10.

Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish priest of St Lawrence Church Moodubelle and ICYM director Udupi deanery welcomed the youth for the quiz competition.

Fr Wilson Dsouza, parish priest, St Anthoy Church Kuntalnagar, led the teams by a prayer and wished them sucess.



The programme commenced with a quiz competition. with Fr F Jaison Pais, Capuchin, Assisi Nilaya, Moodubelle as quiz master. The youth from Katpadi, Udyavar, Kalmadi, Perampalli, Moodubelle, Kuntalnagar and Udupi participated in the quiz. Each team had ten participants. The quiz covered topics from the Bible, knowledge about saints, general knowledge from sports, politics, business and entertainment. The first place was bagged by Udyavar unit, second place by Kalmadi and third place by Kuntalnagar units.

After the quiz competition the formal programme was presided over by Fr Valerian Mendonca parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church and the dean of Udupi deanery.

Viton Dsouza ICYM deanery president welcomed all the dignitaries. Fr Valerian Mendonca appreciated the youth for coming together and participating in the various activities. He also briefed them about the importance of road safety awareness which was the talk that was organized specially for the youth. He congratulated the ICYM unit of Udupi deanery and also the lead taken by the ICYM Kuntalnagar unit in hosting the event.

Fr Valerian Mendonca gave away prizes to the winners of the quiz. The resource person for the event was Ganesh Naik, assistant investigation officer from Kaup police station. He briefed them about road safety measures and how every individual can be responsible in following road safety measures. He highlighted the importance of driving license, vehicle registration and insurance documents every vehicle owner and driver should possess. He emphasized on the deviations that happen, how one becomes victims of accidents. The session was interactive with questions raised by the youth.

The winners of dodge ball competition were: first place by ICYM Katpadi unit, second place was secured by Kalmadi unit. The treasure hunt game winner was from Moodubelle unit.

Fr Edwin Dsouza, diocese director of Youth Commission, Dion Dsouza president of youth commission Udupi diocese, Fr Lawrence Cutinha, ICYM director Udupi deanery, Fr Wilson Dsouza, parish priest Kuntalnagar, Fr Ronson, parish priest of Katapadi, Vilton Dsouza president ICYM deanery, Vincent Dsouza vice president St Anthony church, Kuntalnagar Eden Dsouza ICYM president, Kuntalnagar and Monthu Dsouza, ICYM animator Kuntalnagar were also present at the programme.

Eden Dsouza proposed the vote of thanks and Teena Mendonca compered the programme.

At the end of the programme, the youth enjoyed kite flying. A total of 137 youth from different parishes participated. The entire event was hosted by ICYM unit St Anthony Church Kuntalnagar, Udupi.
