Mangaluru: Sexual harassment of minor, uncle of victim sentenced to 10 years of RI

Mangaluru, Feb 23: On Friday February 22, Justice B R Pallavi of second additional district and sessions court and POCSO special court awarded rigorous imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of Rs 10,000 to a man, uncle of the victim minor girl.

Chandrakant (44), a resident of Gowri Math vicinity in the town is the person who is convicted in the case. This verdict is given within nine months of the incident after completing inquiry based on medical proof as well as the witness of the investigating officers under IPC section 376 and section 6 of the POCSO act.

Details of the case

The 11-year-old girl, relative of convicted Chandrakant's wife, had come to the house of Chandrakant during summer holidays. On May 2, 2018 at midnight her uncle, convicted Chandrakant had committed sexual atrocity on the minor girl. Chandrakant's wife, who noticed the act of her husband registered a case at the women police station of Pandeshwar in the city. The team of police led by SI Kalavati conducted the investigation. The victim girl, her mother, grandmother and wife of the accused deposed as witnesses in the court.
