Seven Haryana cops suspended after two prisoners escape

Chandigarh, Feb 23 (IANS): Seven Haryana Police personnel were placed under suspension on Friday after two prisoners escaped from police custody while being taken in a police van in Haryana's Jhajjar district.

The prisoners escaped from the police van when it slowed down at a speed-breaker, taking advantage of a broken iron mesh on the window of the van.

The prisoners who escaped were Akash from Rohtak, and Deepak from Delhi.

There were two other prisoners in the police van and one of them, Ankit, also tried to escape but was caught by the accompanying policemen.

All four prisoners were being taken back to district jail in Dulina in Jhajjar district after a court hearing in Sonipat town.

Jhajjar Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar led police teams to trace the prisoners who escaped.

A probe has been ordered into the incident.
