Kasargod, Feb 21: Special investigating team of the murders of youth congress activists Kripesh and Sharathlal arrested five more accused. With this, the number of total arrests have gone up to seven. Meanwhile state inspector general of police Loknath Behra handed over the case to crime branch.

The five arrests were made on Thursday, February 21 after questioning them in custody. The arrested accused are Echiladka resident K M Suresh(27), K Anil Kumar(33), Kundanguli resident Ashwin, Kalliad resident Srirag and Gijin. All of them are CPM activists. Local CPM committee member A Pitambaran and Saji George, who drove the car with accused in it were arrested earlier.

Pitambaran was produced in Hosadurga court and remanded to police custody till Feb 27. Saji George has been produced in the court today and remanded to six days police custody. As the family members of the deceased and Congress party were pressing to hand over the case to CBI, the state government has handed over the case to crime branch. Investigations will be held in the leadership of IGP S Srijith.
