Gurugram, Feb 21 (IANS): A three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a sweeper in the toilet of a private school here, police said on Thursday.

The accused Komal, employed with a preparatory school in Sector 70, has been arrested.

He tried to rape the minor inside the school toilet. The incident came to light when the victim complained to her mother on Wednesday about severe pain in her private parts. Subsequently, the girl's father approached the school.

"When I contacted the school principal, I learnt the management is aware of the incident and the alleged sweeper was still working. My daughter identified him," her father said.

"When I protested at the school, the principal tried to convince me of taking action against the sweeper. As I was not satisfied with assurance, I approached Badshahpur police station," he added.

Shamsher Singh, ACP (crime) and CPRO of Gurugram Police, said: "We have received a written complaint from the victim's father and immediately raided the school. We have arrested the accused. He has been booked under the POCSO Act."
