Karwar, Feb 20: In a heart-rending incident reported from Siddara in the taluk, a man suffered chest pain and died after lighting the funeral pyre of his mother.

The man who suddenly passed away in this manner was Manjunath Atmaram Kolambakar (49) from Siddara village.

Savitri Kolambakar, mother of Manjunath, who was suffering from ill health since long, had breathed her last on Tuesday morning. Her mortal remains were taken to the graveyard for the funeral. Manjunath, who was the only son of Savitri, performed all the rituals as per directions. 

As soon as he lighted the pyre of his mother, he complained of chest pain. He was rushed to the primary health centre at Siddara where preliminary treatment was provided.   However, by the time he was taken to the district hospital here for advanced treatment, he had died.

The deceased is survived by wife and children. The news about the death of the son during the funeral of his mother came as a bolt from blue for the already grief-stricken neighbours of the deceased.
