Bengaluru: Twist to Surya Kiran planes crash - one more injured pilot found in lake

Bengaluru, Feb 20: In an unexpected twist to the mid-air collision of two Surya Kiran jets on Tuesday, February 19 that were practicing for the Aero India show to be held in the city, it is unearthed very late that there were four pilots in the two planes and not three as believed.

The fourth pilot was found in an unconscious state on the early morning of Wednesday, February 20.

In the air accident that occurred on Tuesday between the two jets during practice, one pilot had died and two jumped out of the plane using parachute. As per the information available now, it is learnt that there were four pilots in the two planes and not three as assumed. The fourth pilot, 2 IC Wing Commander Vijay Shelke was found in an unconscious state on the early morning of Wednesday. However, this matter is yet to be confirmed by the Air Force officials as well as the organizers of Aero India show.

Wing Commander Shelke was found in the Gantigaanahalli lake behind the Air Force base. He has been admitted to a hospital along with Squadron Leader Tejeshwar Singh.

FSL team is conducting investigation at the spot of the accident and are collecting vital recording of the conversation between the ATC and the pilots from the black box of both the flights.

    It should have been understood soon after the clash.. It's a twin seat intermediate trainer aircraft. So, there must be 4 pilots.
