Dubai: Indoor sports mega event ‘SMMC Sports’ on Feb 22

Dubai, Feb 18: St Mary’s Mangalorean Community (SMMC) Dubai is all set to present this year’s first mega event of the organisation in 2019, ‘SMMC Sports 2019’. The day-long indoor cricket and throw ball tournament will be taking place at the United Pro Sports, Al Quoz, Dubai on February 22, 2019 from 8:30 am to 6 pm.

Since its commencement in 2013, SMMC, a fast growing and popular Mangalurean organisation at St Mary’s Catholic Church Dubai is functioning to fulfill the spiritual and community requirements of the huge Mangalurean Konkani community of Dubai and has been successfully organising various events like dramas, sports events, competitions, stage programmes, feast celebrations etc.

SMMC has been successfully organizing this indoor sports event from past consecutive 4 years. This year too, SMMC core committee under the leadership of present coordinator Jerina Lewis and new spiritual director of SMMC Fr Denis Saldanha intending to make this first major venture of the organization of 2019 as a gratifying event of this year.

Like every year, this popular sports event is a full day indoor event, open only for Christian (any nationalities) UAE residents. This year 29 cricket teams (Men) and 11 Throw ball teams (Men & women) from different emirates will be participating in this tournament. Attractive cash prizes and trophies will be presented to the winning teams and individuals too for their exceptional performance.

Event will start sharp at 8:00 am with registration process for teams. Thereafter at 8:30 am, inauguration ceremony, 8:45 am briefing session for teams and sharp at 9:00 am both cricket and throw ball tournaments will begin simultaneously. The event is expected to conclude at 5:30 pm, thereafter closing/award ceremony will be held.

SMMC welcomes all the members of Konkani community and their friends to witness and enjoy the spectacular event.
