Margao: Vijai Sardesai pitches for dhirio

Margao, Feb 9 (TOI): TCP minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday made a pitch for legalising dhirio and granting special status for Goa, both of which, he said, constituted regional aspirations of Goans. He said that while dhirio was a traditional sport of Goans, the Centre should come out with plans and provisions that would protect Goa’s distinct identity.

He was speaking to mediapersons after Cuncolim locals led by former Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao and his son Yuri, met him demanding scrapping of the proposed construction of a housing project in Cuncolim.

Sardesai assured to take up the matter with the urban development minister.

In a separate media briefing, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias said that while he was unaware of the project in Cuncolim, no proposal has come to the panchayat for approval so far. “I am with the people and will ensure that the project is scrapped,” Dias said.
