Mangaluru: Congress leader U K Monu urges party to consider him for LS polls

Mangaluru, Feb 8: Congress leader and district Wakf board president U K Monu urged to consider him as the candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing media here on Friday, February 8, U K Monu said, "I joined Congress party in 1970 as a worker and have gained confidence of local and state Congress leaders. Due to my sincere service to the party as an honest worker, the state leadership has given me various posts from the beginning till date."



"I have submitted a letter to the district Congress president Harish Kumar requesting his support for my candidature in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. I have served as treasurer of Ullal block Congress committee from 1974 to 2000. I was elected as member of district Congress in 2000 and was the president of district Congress committee, minority department from 1994 to 2008," added Monu.

Monu further said, "I tried to contest parliamentary elections in the year 2009 from the constituency of Mangaluru on Congress party ticket. In the year 2014, I again attempted to contest by getting B form from the high command. The high command instructed me to contest DCC election for the selection of candidate and I lost the election to B Janardhana Poojary."

"I am confident that the people, irrespective of religion, will support me for my candidature," concluded U K Monu.

    I will vote to any candidate , irrespective of party, who has the calibre of late Srinivas Mallya and late George Fernandes. Looking forward such calibre level candidate for 2019 Lok Saba election from Mangalore Constituency.

    The real good candidate for MP from Mangalore is Vijay Kumar Shetty. Very simple, honest, non-corrupt, and having good ethics. Even the poorest person can go and meet him and he is the person who will help his level best.

    Nobody can defeat BJP in Mangalore as long as Mr. Modi is the PM candidate. BJP will win maximum number of seats in the LS elections throughout the country & will form the government at the center even without NDA partners.
    So even if all the opposition parties come together & put up a single candidate against BJP, nobody can stop the BJP from winning the Mangalore seat.

    I feel sorry for Mr. Monu, he is a nice guy and an able worker. The existing Congi leaders in DK and in the state have done so much of damage, it simply prohibits capable youngsters to come , contest, win and serve people. It will take a very long time, perhaps one or 2 terms to comeback to normal.

    If Monu is given Congress ticket it will be a shot in the arm for BJP. Hindu votes will get consolidated if it's a Muslim candidate.Again it's a advantage BJP...In DK cast factor,religion factor dominates much along with party factor. For the time being there us no suitable candidate in Congress DK unit to stand against BJP even if it is Nalin kumar Kateel.Peopke like Ivan D'Souza ,Lobo are indirectly helping BJP.....All opposition parties can try their luck by putting a single candidate against BJP in Mangalore ...then there will not be any mermering later on.
