Mangaluru, Jan 23: The three-day fruit and flower show organized by the department of horticulture, district administration and developmental committee of Kadri Park will begin on January 26.
Giving the details of the show in a press meet held at DC office, deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, said "U T Khader, district In-charge minister, will inaugurate the flower show, while Pratap Chandra Shetty, Speaker, legislative assembly will inaugurate the various models of flowers. Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South will preside over the programme."
"Various groups of horticultural department, co-operatives societies and different organizations are participating in this show. The floral model of floating ship, which will be made exclusively for the exhibition, will be the cynosure of all eyes. The unique model has been shaped out of roses, carnations, lilies and other flowers. Visitors can be seen posing for pictures with the model. Besides, there are variety of flowers such as Topiyari, Anthurium, Orchid and many more. In addition, the department will also display rows of bottle gourd, ridge gourd, bitter gourd, radish, spinach, pumpkin and other vegetables for the show, along with stalls of seeds, fertilizers, handicraft items and agricultural machinery." added the DC.
No monkey fever reported in district
The deputy commissioner confirmed that there no monkey fever reported in the district of Dakshina Kannada.
Speaking to the media he said, "The district administration took all the preventive measures for monkey fever when it was reported at Shivamogga. So far no case of monkey fever is registered in the district. The blood samples of monkeys who died in border areas of the district were sent to the laboratory for confirmation. This disease does not spread from human to human. But people who go to forest everyday and those who have cattle should take extra care. But there is no need to panic. In our district, we have noticed few monkey deaths in isolated cases. No bulk monkey deaths have taken place here."
"As a precautionary measure, we have already started awareness in rural areas about monkey fever. It is our request to the public not to enter the forests unnecessarily. Meanwhile, if any one notices viral disease and its symptoms, immediately report to the nearest health care center," concluded Sasikanth Senthil.
