Peru look for 2nd win at SouthAm U-20

Santiago (Chile), Jan 22 (IANS) Peru will try to reinforce the impression they made with their winning debut in the 2019 South American U-20 championship here when they face Paraguay, who have only a point after two matches.

Peru, who didn't play on Sunday, will head into Wednesday's match rested and still basking in the glow of their 1-0 triumph over defending champions Uruguay.

As part of his preparations for the match against Paraguay, Peruvian coach Daniel Ahmed was in the stands for the first half of Sunday's 1-1 draw between the Paraguayans and Argentina in Curico.

Winning the second match would lift Peru to 6 points and leave them well-poised to reach the finals from Group B, where they are currently tied with Ecuador and Uruguay at 3 points, though the Peruvians have a game in hand.

Paraguay, on the other hand, is under more pressure as they prepare for the match on Tuesday night in Talca, because they are last in Group B.

While drawing with Argentina was an improvement after being routed 3-0 by Ecuador in the debut, Paraguay must take all 3 points from the contest with Peru to have any chance of advancing.
