Karwar, Jan 21: Over 10 people drowned when a boat carrying 22 people returning after visit to Sagar, Karwar, Uttar Kannada capsized in the sea on Monday, January 21.
The deceased are Nilesh Rohidas Pednekar, Chanda Ankolekar, Kumar, Jayashri Kotarkar, Annakka Ingalkar, Ganapati Kotharkar, another woman and a three-year-old child. Shreyas Pavaskar is reportedly missing.
Naveen M Palankar, Neha Nilesh Pednekar, Radha, Vaibhav Vinod Raikar, Mahesh P Shet, Adarsh Shirodkar and Darshan P Shirodkar have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
The travelers had come for Koormagada Narasimha deity fair.
Coast guard staff and local fishermen have continued looking for missing people after fishing out the eight bodies. The Navy has also been called for rescue and relief operation, which is underway.
Deputy commissioner Nakul visited the spot.
Koormagada is an island in Arabian Sea and is about three kilometers away from Karwar.
