Beltangady: Two come in contact with live wire - one succumbs, other injured

Beltangady, Jan 21: After a person came in contact with live wire when laying power cable from a private power plant, he was electrocuted. The other suffered serious injuries. This incident happened at Nada in the taluk on Sunday January 20.

The deceased was Kantaraju alias Srikanth (24) from Besagarahalli in Maddur taluk, Mandya district. His colleague, Sheshadri Kumar (25) from Kunigal, was admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru with serious injuries.

The above two workers were engaged for the work of laying power line from a private power plant at Neriya to Guruvayanakere. Electric poles on the line were planted and cables were being drawn through them. On Sunday, this work was undertaken behind Nada government high school on Manjotti - Suriya Road. When a pole was lifted from the ground with the help of a crane, it came in contact with power lines passing above. The workers were holding the poles then.

The police from here visited the spot and undertook scrutiny.

The tragedy happened after the pole touched a 33 kv high tension line. Police sub-inspector here, Ravi B S, said that there is no concrete information as to for whom the workers were engaged. Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd assistant executive engineer here, Shivashankar, said that his office had no information about the ongoing work as above. He said that for severing electricity supply, permission from competent authority is necessary. He stated that his office came to know about the work going on only after the police sub-inspector conveyed this information. He said that the electrical inspectors will visit the spot and preapre a report.
