Karkala: Yakshagana artiste Lokesh Muchchoor chosen for 'Kundeshwar Samman' award

Karkala, Jan 21: Lokesh Muchchoor, known for his excellent depiction of Pundu Veshas in Yakshagana episodes, who is presently serving as an artiste of Kateel Mela, has been chosen for this year's 'Kundeshwar Samman' award. The award function will be held on January 23, during the annual car festival of Hirgana Lord Kundeshwar temple here.

On this occasion, veteran Yakshagana Arthadhari, Nadibettu Dharmaraja Kattada, will be extended honourary felicitation. Highly respected and celebrated Bhagawath, Balipa Narayana Bhagwath, will present the award, said programme coordinator, Jitendra Kundeshwar.

Prakash Anchan Daddalakadu, who is the force behind 'one nation - one education' national campaign, will preside. Local MLA, V Sunil Kumar, former MLA, H Gopal Bhandary and some other dignitaries will participate.

Well-known Yakshagana artistes from coastal Karnataka will present Yakshagana episode, 'Veera Abhimanyu', while Kadri Bala Yakshakoota will present 'Srikrishna Leele' on this occasion.

Lakumi team of theatre artistes led by Kishore D Shetty will stage comedy Tulu play, 'Mange Malpodchi' in which Aravind Bolar will be seen donning the lead role.

Annual car festival: Festival is being held on January 22, on which day community feast is being arranged. Rangapuje, Nemotsava, Bhoota Bali and such other religious rituals will also be performed.
