Mangaluru: Panic among locals as miscreants set fire to hill

Mangaluru, Jan 18: Panic prevailed at Kuppepadav of the taluk on the night of Thursday, January 17 as fire erupted on a hill and spread to an area of 15 acres that was nearby the hill.

Some miscreant had set fire at Manipalla near here in order to burn the bush on the hill. However, the fire spread due to breeze and spread to the whole area of the hill which was approximately 15 acres. The fire could not be brought under control due to its intensity as well as the vast area.

Residents of more than 10 nearby houses were tense and concerned due to the continuous fire on the hill. As a precaution, the petro pump in the vicinity of the hill was closed down. Fire service personnel and locals had a tough time bringing the fire under control, which created anxiousness among locals till midnight.

A case in this regard was registered at Bajpe police station.
