Mangaluru: SAC holds day-long national seminar ‘India in the Web of Digitalisation’

Mangaluru, Jan 17: On January 16, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, held a day-long national seminar on the theme, ‘India in the Web of Digitalisation’ which was jointly organised by the department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Economics & the Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Commerce. The seminar was held in the Eric Matthias Hall and various other venues at the Maffei (IT) Block.

After seeking the blessings of the almighty through a prayer song, the dignitaries symbolically inaugurated the ceremony with the unveiling of the banner which represented the nine pillars of digitalisation.



During the ceremony, Dr P S Aithal, vice chancellor, Srinivas University, the chief guest of the day had delivered the keynote address. He spoke about how every individual should think innovatively and create new knowledge. In addition, he emphasised about the evolution of digitalisation which shaped the digitalisation future for the world. Moreover, he stressed upon the application of technology/digitalisation in India and in what ways it could benefit the Indian economy. He concluded the session by mentioning two new areas in the field of technology i.e. ICCT and nanotechnology which could help solve all problems in the society and which could perhaps lead to the attainment of comfortability, immortality and impotency.

Principal Fr Praveen Martis expressed his thoughts regarding digitisation, digitalisation and digital transformation and even touched upon the five pillars of education. Silvia Das Merces Joao, the student coordinator of the event, proposed the vote of thanks expressing her gratitude to the convenors (Jennifer Maria Quadras and Priya Shetty) of the event, faculty members, students and sponsors (Mangalore SEZ Ltd. and Corporation Bank) for contributing generously towards the success of the event.

Two technical sessions were conducted soon after the inaugural ceremony from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm by Srinivas Rao (Head-Quality and Productivity (Corporate), Manipal Technologies Ltd, Manipal) and Dr Rakshay Shetty (Head, Paediatric Intensive Care Services, Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Bangalore), on the topics ‘Challenges in Digitalisation’ and ‘Impact of Digitalisation on Health Care Management and Operational Techniques’, respectively.

The paper presentation commenced from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm where 56 delegates from various institutions/colleges had actively participated in the event. The programme ended with a valedictory address which was delivered by Dr Manuel Tauro (HOD of BCom).
