Bantwal, Jan 16: "People like Anant Kumar Hegde, Shobha Karandlaje, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Pratap Simha are the brands of BJP. Only radicals are getting party ticket in BJP. Their intention is to disrupt communal harmony by throwing stones and setting fire. They do not want the all-round development of the district," accused Amrit Shenoy, member of AICC.

Shenoy was speaking at the protest meeting at Mani junction after the foot march jatha by the Congress against the incompletion of the national highway work in Hassan-Gundya-B C Road stretch reached here on the evening of Tuesday, January 15.

Amrit further said, "There is no possibility of Modi becoming prime minister for the second time. This time around the people of the country will send BJP government home. Only Congress has the eligibility to rule India. Let those who say 'Navellaru Hindu, Ondu' sit together and eat with the masses. Congress's stand is only one. BJP's stand is duel. With regard to Cow and beef, BJP is following different policy in different states. Eating what we like, is our right. The constitution itself has held this up."

Harish Kumar, president of Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee presided over the function. Sudhir Kumar Shetty, block Congress president of Panemangaluru welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Kodaje Balakrishna Alva.

"Only Congress has the eligibility to rule India. "

Haha. Be humble if you wish to govern (not rule) people.

"Eating what we like, is our right. The constitution itself has held this up."

The prohibition of cow slaughter is also one of the Directive Principles of State Policy contained in Article 48 of the Constitution.

The "Preservation, protection and improvement of stock and prevention of animal diseases, veterinary training and practice" is Entry 15 of the State List of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, meaning that State Legislatures have exclusive powers to legislate the prevention of slaughter and preservation of cattle.

The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964  was passed when Congress Nijalingappa was the CM.
