Mangaluru: 'Mukti' wins best film award at 'Spectrum' at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Jan 14: ‘Mukti’ (redemption), a movie that features challenges faced by members of the LGBTQ community, won the best film prize at ‘Spectrum 2018’, a national level short film-making competition on social change organised by St Agnes College (Autonomous), department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Agnesian Alumni.

The award presentation ceremony was held on Sunday, January 13 at the college conference hall and inaugurated by cine actor Arjun Kapikad by splashing colours of the rainbow on a white sheet after which the word ‘Spectrum’ magically appears.

 

Kapikad in his address spoke on how lively ‘college phase’ influences one’s life as well as how short film-making brings out one's point of view creatively.

Presiding over the programme, St Agnes College principal Sr Dr Jeswina AC explained the meaning of ‘Spectrum’. “Just as Mahatma Gandhi spoke on being the change you want to see, ‘Spectrum’ aims to portray positive change through thought provoking cinema,” she said.

Spectrum 2018 received 22 movie submissions from different parts of India. Two time national award winning film director Abhay Simha, author and filmmaker Samvartha ‘Sahil’, Chris Lewis, vice president of Merrill Lynch Bank, Current Bank of America, USA were the eminent jury for the competition.

Vice-president Agnesian Alumni Geanette D’Souza, Syndicate Bank Agnes branch manager Anuradha, Pia Artistry proprietor Priya, and Mahesh Acharya from MotoWorld were the guests of honour on the occasion who presented awards to winners along with Arjun Kapikad.

    Thank you, dear Sr. Jeswina, for all your new initiatives at St. Agnes College thru various participations, including the program titled as "Spectrum". Each and every program has a benefit of its own thru the social media where communication plays an important role. Ultimately, the students stand to gain the best benefit of communication and interaction with people far and beyond the normal school environment. Students become vulnerable to the world far and beyond their daily reach of student life.


    The students of the new generation are bright and smart. They need all our support and encouragement.


    May St. Agnes College continue to provide of everything to their students so that our community will thrive, and the students give their very best towards humanity in these challenging times.
