Mangaluru, Jan 10: Dakshina Kannada Congress party led by former MLA J R Lobo held protest on Thursday, January 10, in front of Vijaya Bank regional office near Jyothi Talkies against the merger of Vijaya Bank with other two nationalized banks.

“Dakshina Kannada has given birth to five big nationalized banks. So far none of the banks has been merged with any other bank. We condemn the move of central government to merge Vijaya Bank with Dena Bank and Bank of Baroda which are under huge losses. This is an insult to Vijaya Bank,” J R Lobo said.

“6 months back Congress party protested against this issue. Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel is silent on this issue. He has not said any word about this issue. Even while renaming the St Aloysius Road to Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty, BJP created lot of confusion. Now they are not even trying to save Vijaya Bank. They should be ashamed of this,” Lobo added.

“BJP does not need Vijaya Bank now as they need only party and Modi, They never cared about the service and sacrifice of Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty. The wrong decision taken by the government needs to be withdrawn immediately,” Lobo demanded.

Former minister Ramanath Rai, speaking on the occasion, said, "Attavar Balakrishna Shetty strived hard to start Vijaya Bank which was taken forward by Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty. Vijaya Bank is one of the prominent banks which gave employment to several people. Now the day has come to remove the images of Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty. We can mark this as a black day. When decision was taken to merge the Vijaya Bank with other banks, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has no voice to speak out. Now all of a sudden, a memorandum is given to Jaitley. The move of merging Vijaya Bank with Dena bank and Bank of Baroda is not right and the decision needs to take back,”

District Congress president Harish Kumar said, "We condemn the move made by Central government to merge Vijaya Bank with other banks. Vijaya Bank has given loan to every sections of society. Congress has been protesting since 8 months. Our MP is totally silent on this issue.”

Congress party also held protests opposite Congress office and at Kankanady.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, corporator Appi, Asha D Silva, Praveen Chandra Alva, AC Vinayaraj and others were present.

Why merger with Bank of Baroda? Is it because Bank of Baroda is from Gujarat and Modi is from Gujarat! Or is it Modi wants to dump Gujarat model of Banking on Karnataka origin Bank.

Karnataka is The only State that have produced successfully so many major Banks and successful served throughout India.

Withdraw the deposits and deposit in another bank that is favorable to DK people. It is important to have known person in the bank who can understand the local culture, language and needs of the local people. Depositors will be in trouble for a minor error in banking which can be overlooked by the bank employee or blow it out of proportion. Bank with the known and friendly person. It is your money and your life.

THE VIJAYA BANK MERGING WITH BANK OF BARODA ISSUE IS HIGHER THAN RENAMING ST ALOYSIAS COLLEGE ROAD AS MULKI SUNDAR RAM SHETTY ROAD.THEN EVERY BODY SHOULD HAVE SUPPORT TO RENAME THAT ROAD AS ST.ALOYSIAS ROAD.BECOUSE FAMOUS COLLEGE IS THERE.IF ANY ONE WANTS TO NAME ANY ROAD AS MULKI SUNDAR RAM ROAD,MAY SEE ANYWHERE OF MANGALORE.

SOMBODY MADE THAT ISSUE AS BIG ISSUE.NOW WITHIN THREE MONTHS VIJAYA BANK NAME WILL MISS TOTALLY FROM EVERY WHERE.THEN SOME SO CALLED LEADERS ANNOUNCED AGAINST MR.J.R.LOBO AND CALLED TO DEFEAT HIM IN MLA ELECTION.SAME PERSONS WHAT WILL DO NOW AGAINST MISS.SHOBHA AND MR. It is clearly a strategy to minimize the impact of a mega failure in Dena Bank by absorbing its losses to 2 profit making banks viz., BoB and Vijaya Bank. Instead of fighting the merger, how about at the very least fighting for retaining the name of the combined entity as Vijaya Bank?

Whether it be, Nalin KK or JP or anyone from South, their bargaining power in the parliament is meager. Most of the control is with MPs that bring majority seats to the Parliament, viz., UP and the Hindi belt. The Lobos or the DSouzas cannot do a bit on this, leave alone Kateel. Even Moily was known as a loyal soft spoken & harmless leader and hence could win some coveted positions but with little influence for the region.

Unless more and more DK people take up IAS and IPS career (which again is dominated by North Indians) coupled with selection of charismatic and able leaders from DK and southern part of Karnataka this trend will continue.

Already HAL is Behal! and now Vijaya Bank, wake up call for Kannadigas/Mangaloreans.

Modi gave Electricity Power to Adani, a Gujju, Rafael Deal to Ambani, a Gujju and now wants to Merge Vijaya Bank, Dakshina Kannada's Pride with Bank of Baroda, a Gujju Bank which involved in 6000 Crores FOREX scam, ROTOMAC scam. Still BJP leaders are silent on the issue. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Shoba Karandlaje, Sadananda Gowda and other BJP MLA's of the the district, if they have guts, should oppose this merger and stop Modi from this merger or else they should resign immediately.

Here are few things to know about the Bank of Baroda forex scam

    1. It was alleged that a whopping Rs 6,172 crore black money was remitted from Bank of Baroda to Hong Kong camouflaged as payments for non-existent imports like cashew, pulses and rice. The amount was allegedly deposited in 59 accounts in cash as advance for imports that never existed. On October 12, 2015, CBI and the Enforcement Directorate started investigating the matter.

    2. It is also alleged that the amount was deposited in 59 accounts of the bank’s Ashok Vihar branch (New Delhi) in cash as advance for import and the money was sent to some select companies in Hong Kong.

    3. The branch opened 59 current accounts from May 2014 to June 2015 through which large foreign exchange remittances were made, the Bank of Baroda said in a regulatory filing.

    4. During this one year, a total of 5,853 outward foreign remittances aggregating USD 546.10 million (around Rs 3,500 crore) were made through 38 current accounts to various overseas parties numbering some 400, mainly based in Hong Kong and one in the UAE.

    5. Remittances were sent to Hong Kong and Dubai via banks, actual exports were sent to Afghanistan. “The records show that the alleged exports were sent to Afghanistan but invoices were generated by Hong Kong importers. It is now a matter investigation as to who received them in Afghanistan and what the exports were linked to,” said an ED officer.

    6. Much before 59 accounts, which are under the scanner of the ED and the CBI,

Vijaya Bank no more remained. A bank of tulunadu.Only 5-10 percent of the staff who hails from here may be working .Entire bank is filled with north Indians. They speak either hindi or English even in rural areas of DK. Naturally people have lost the former service/affection now.Hencr nobody is bothered with merger plans except these oppertunusts. who don't have a account in that bank.

The Patel statue project has cost the taxpayers a minimum of 7,250 crores. The beneficiaries are Gujjus.

The 150,000 crores Bullet Train project is going to take off soon. The beneficiaries are Gujjus.

The All India Railway University has been recently established in Gujarat. Cost: tens of 1000s of crores. Main beneficiaries Gujjus.

Now the merger of a DK bank with two loss-making Gujju banks - as all the Gujju borrowers may be citizens of Antigua.

The beneficiaries of the bank merger: Gujjus.

What has the Gujju-bhai done for the rest of the Indians?
