Kundapur, Jan 8: The police from the town station here intercepted a Maruti Omni vehicle in which cattle were being transported in an inhuman manner by binding their limbs with ropes on Monday January 7. The incident happened at Hemmady in the taluk on national highway 66.

When the police approached the car carrying the cattle, the miscreants abandoned the vehicle and ran away. The police rescued four calves and seized the vehicle belonging to the cattle traffickers.

Ramesh Pawar, police sub-inspector of the crime branch here, along with other staff, was checking vehicles at Hemmady. The police signaled a Maruti Omni vehicle moving towards the town from the direction of Byndoor at around 3.30 am. The driver of the Omni acted like stopping the vehicle but suddenly gained speed and drove away without stopping. The police then chased the vehicle in their vehicle. The accused stopped the vehicle at the road bend at Santosh Nagar a little ahead of Hemmady and ran way. The police found four calves having been hound together with a nylon rope inside. With help from locals, the cattle were rescued.

The documents inside the vehicle revealed that the vehicle belongs to Isubu Beary from Kody here. The police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
