Moodbidri: Renowned singer Hariharan conferred with 'Alva's Virasat' Award

Moodbidri, Jan 5: "Art and music aim at achieving integration. When art of singing work in tandem with tunes and musical instruments, music is created. Art and literature bring a sense of contentment like the moon, and make people culturally rich. People of our nation too should have harmonious coexistence like the Raagaas, tunes and musical instruments," said Pejawar Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji.

He was delivering benedictory address after inaugurating the silver jubilee of national cultural festival, Alva's Virasat - 2019, a the Vanajakshi K Sripati Bhat open air dais at Puthige Videkananda Nagara. The annual extravaganza is held under the aegis of Alva's Education Foundation.



He noted that culturally rich Indian philosophy,Yoga, spirituality etc are moving westward just like sun. At the same time, expressed worry at the fact that Indians are welcoming certain aberrations from the west that can be compared to Rahu and Ketu which aim at harming the lives of the people.

Nitte group of institutions chairman, N Vinay Hegde, hailed Dr M Mohan Alva for contributing young talents to different sectors both at national and international arena, by providing them rich training here. He said that Alva has grown into a force that has grown into an ideal for the society as a whole.

MLA, Umanath Kotian, former minister, K Abhay Chandra Jain and K Amarnath Shetty, former MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Karnataka State Cooperative Federation president, Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, Canara Bank Mangaluru circle general manager, M Laxminarayanan, Hardik Kumar, entrepreneurs, Shashidhar Shetty, Raveendra Alva, K Sripati Bhat, Suresh Bhandary, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Deviprasad Shetty, Mustafa N, Uday Shetty, ,and trustee of Alva's Education Foundation, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, were present.Prof Deepa Ratnakar presented the programme. Public Relations Officer of Alva's, Dr Padmanabha Shenoy, read out the citation.

Before the inaugural, the dignitaries were led to the dais in a procession by students of art troupes and musical instrumentalists.

Hariharan conferred Alva's Virasat Award

Internationally renowned singer, Hariharan, was conferred with Alva's Virasat - 2019 award on this occasion. The award comprises of memento, citation, and cash component of one lac rupees. A special envelope bought out by postal department on the occasion of silver jubilee of A|lva's Virasat was unveiled by Hariharan. Speaking thereafter,Hariharan compared good music to medicine that provides peace to heart and mind. He said that like Yoga, music too has good affect on people. He said he has accepted the award with humility and that this happens to be a most memorable moment of his life.

A host of culturally rich programme of dances, music including Mohiniyattam, Badaguthittu Yakshagana, Malkambh, Dandiya dance of Gujarat, fusion programme presented by Hariharan and Leslie Lewis and various other programmes involving thousands of artistes gave a sense of fulfillment to about 50,000 audiences who had gathered to witness this annual cultural festival.
