Canacona, Jan 5: Canacona police arrested 22-year-old Samir Velip for raping a 15-year-old girl on several occasions during the last six months.

Police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai said that the accused Samir Velip was arrested on Friday after the 15-year-old girl complained of him raping her on several occasions during the last six months.

The accused has been booked under stringent Goa Children’s Act and POCSO Act for raping a minor girl.

The victim whose parents have divorced was staying with her maternal aunt at Canacona since the last few months where she had met the accused.

Prabhudesai said that the aunt of the victim has also been booked under POCSO as she was in the knowledge of the crime but did not do anything to stop it. The aunt was yet to be arrested by the police.

Police came to know about the rape after the girl went missing on Thursday night following which the aunt had lodged the complaint.

Prabhudesai said that the girl was traced on Friday morning and was with another lady friend.

“But during the recording of the statement, the girl confessed to the police about being raped on several occasions by the accused for the last six months,” he said.
