It is our sincere hope that the "Smart City" concept will bring multitudes of new developments including new roads and better roads. Everything does take time and we all have to have patience and perseverance.

In addition to new roads from the existing roads, various thoughts need be processed with budgets and new plans. The entire city, we hope, will eventually get a new "face lift" that will enrich our spending patterns, our selection of priorities and then ultimately the selection of the right sources for implementation of the projects within the time and budgetary constraints.

It will take a few decades to make all the plans and programs to come into reality. Let us place our confidence in our leaders so they guide the destiny of this city in the rightest manner possible.

In addition to new roads, also important is the rest of the infrastructure that includes suitable market facilities, suitable schools and colleges, libraries, museums and recreational parks and the rest of the amenities to add a few.

Our City is in good hands, and that is how and why our city has become so clean and tidy. Thank you,Mangalore.

Readers have to understand that city roads come under state government jurisdiction, even if it is financed by Central government funds. Implementation is the responsibility of state government and they have to give an account of the same to Central government to get more funds for similar projects.
As far as Nanthoor bridge. I think problems is with Contractor and Central Government plus state government which is responsibl for land acquisition. Serious attempt has to be made by local MP, local minister in charge and Contractors to solve this deadlock

One thing we all should agree who have commented below negatively that irrespective of who ever has come to power in Mangalore, the roads are far more better and safe compared to the roads we had previously. Including the small lanes are either of Concrete or Interlock. and also dont forget friends In terms of quality of life, Mangaluru is ranked 41, bettering even San Francisco which is ranked 42.

Ofcourse Pumpwell & Thokottu Flyover is a disaster, but when some good things are implemented by the Government Irrespective of any Party in power, we should stop complaining and support for the betterment of our Mangalore. Please guys dont be pessimistic.

Before Smart Roads we need proper roads : With traffic lights at every maor junctions, with Zebra stripes for crossing every 200 meters or so, priority for the pedestrians on the Zebras (and not for the private buses), Footpaths without holes and garbage etc. Smart Roads will need also smart and informed drivers. Here, and in many countries in Europe, the vehicles on both sides of the road stop when a pedestrian shows the intent of crossing the road on the Zebra's. Electronic equipment and cameras do not make a road smart. They will just create a well equipped dumb road.

It is of no use to construct smart roads unless they shift service bus stand to pumpwell or some other place. I think this is money making idea just before MCC elections! They know very well that most of them will never get re elected.

As per MCC style of working, Smart City planning involves cutting down the greenery (trees), building more concrete roads, permitting more concrete structures to come up and making life difficult for its citizens. I wonder when they will start thinking about citizen welfare? As long as the Smart City project is carried out by the same incompetent MCC, dont expect anything better, rather expect worse. When will we ever see a welcome change?
