Udupi: 'Harsha' Founder Bola Poojary Passes Away

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (GA)

Udupi, Dec 18: Renowned social worker, veteran Congress leader and founder of 'Harsha Electronics', Bola Poojary (86) passed away in his residence near here on Wednesday December 17.

Though he was an entrepreneur by profession, he had always been in the forefront of social activities for almost six long decades. He was considered to be one of the most influential men of the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada. His love for art and various art forms had enabled him to stitch a close bond with almost all yakshagana artistes of the district.  A progressive farmer and a leading entrepreneur, he was revered 'Bolanna' (Elder brother) to all.

He had a fine political acumen and was a close associate of union minister Oscar Fernandes. He was even the vice-president of district Congress and had rendered a yeoman's service in strengthening Congress' roots in the district.

On the professional front, he first got into the trade of preparing switchboards used in electrical wiring. This gradually evolved in 'Prakash' brand which is a household name today. But 'Harsha Electronics' which was his dream project, established him as one of the leading entrepreneurs of the district.  If 'Harsha' has spread wings today to various parts of the district, credit must go to the calibre and innovation of Bola Poojary.

He was spring of inspiration not only to budding entrepreneurs but even to aspiring politicians. Despite being on the wrong side of the age, he had the enthusiasm of a young man in whatever he did. But after his health complications worsened some five months ago, he was advised to take complete rest. However, his health finally failed him and breathed his last on Wednesday December 17 in his house.

State home minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA Raghupati Bhat, union minister Oscar Fernandes, former KPCC president Janardhan Poojary, former minister Vasant Salian, former MPs Manorama Madhwaraj, Vinay Kumar Sorake etc have condoled the death of Bola Poojary.
