Mangaluru: Christaraj Navachetan Special School celebrates annual day

Mangaluru, Dec 24: Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of Mangaluru Province have a school for differently abled children in Venur, called ‘Christaraj Navachetana Special School’ which has a unique history of 20 years. It was started in the year 1998 and more than three hundred students have passed through the portals of this school. Under the leadership of Sr Flavia Lewis, the principal and Sr Wilma D’Sa, the superior of the convent, the school offers very special care to these children. The staff is dedicated and hence for the past 20 years it caters to the needs of the specially gifted children in and around Dakshina Kannada District.

On December 21, the school celebrated annual day and the children presented entertainment programme which was applauded by all. In her presidential address, Sr Rita Vas, provincial superior of Mangaluru province said, “These children are special, because they possess a unique set of abilities, talents and perspectives which they are happy to present. Differently abled children do not need much of our sympathy but they do need to be respected, loved and live a dignified life in the society as much as any other citizen of our country. We should not look down upon these children or on their parents, but help them to stand on their own in the society.”



She also thanked and applauded the staff specially, Sr Flavia Lewis principal, Sr Wilma D’Sa, animator of the convent for their strenuous efforts and patience in teaching different skills to these children. Sr Falvia and Sr Wilma were honoured with shawls and garlands for their committed service for the welfare of these children.

The programme went on very beautifully under the guidance of the staff and the audience was surprised by the unique talents and programme presented by the children.
