Panaji, Dec 18: Bharatiya Janata Party addressing a press conference as a part of its nationwide campaign against Congress on SC verdict on Rafale deal said that Congress’ misinformation on Rafale deal is impacting the credibility of the defence establishments of the country.

“It is very unfortunate that spreading this kind of information, indulging in this kind of irresponsible allegation mongering, unfortunately is impacting upon our defence establishment as well,” BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahastrabuddhe said.

“The defence establishment which was till recently led by unimpeachable leaders like current CM of Goa Manohar Parrikar,” he said.

“Unfortunately, Congress party, very-very irresponsibly is indulging in this allegation mongering. One can understand if there is a courage of conviction but we find that congress party is trying to build up some kind of courage out of confusion and concoction which is reprehensible and we all condemn these attempts because they are ultimately impacting upon the credibility of the defence establishment as well,” he added.

When asked whether Congress President Rahul Gandhi was acting anti-national, the BJP leader said he would not use that kind of terminology (anti-national) but “every act of commission and omission has its own impact on national life, national discourse and national narrative.”

“This impact of these irresponsible allegations which had no basis at all and it has been now established by the SC itself through its verdict. So naturally it amounts to some kind of irresponsibility and any irresponsible act impacts upon the interest of the nation,” Sahastrabhuddhe said.

Responding to a question on whether Rafale deal could be an issue for upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the BJP leader said “if congress continues with its campaign through all kind of irresponsibility then God only should save their attempts of creating a negative narratives.”

He said that the Congress has not been accepting the verdict of the SC.

“The court has unambiguously given its verdict. They have said they found nothing illegal, nothing suspicious about decision in purchase of fighter plane Rafale is concerned and also nothing commercial about selection of partners,” he said.
He said Congress is indulging is making mountain out of a molehill. “Congress has been trying to spread misinform and misguide the people of the country,” Sahastrabuddhe said.

The BJP leader said that the demand for high-powered fighter planes existed for Air Force for last 20 years.

“Our neighbouring countries including Pakistan and china are well equipped with fighter planes. Therefore, (Indian) air force was asking for last 20 years high capacity fighter planes,” he said.

“Since 2008, the active process started in this regard initiated by former government. But unfortunately even five years later it did not attain the finalisation,” he added.

The SC order dismissing petitions challenging Rafale deal is a curious one. It says SC has no jurisdiction to examine sensitive defense deals but goes on to pronounce it didn’t find procedural lapses. The Court in a thoroughly flawed judgment dismissed petitions seeking a CBI inquiry into the Rafale deal. Instead, 3 judges with no tech or military knowledge cleared the deal on all counts.
We are disappointed the SC has taken a conservative view of judicial review in cases of defense deal corruption involving high functionaries and based its judgment on false information.
    1. The PM signed an agreement for 36 Rafale jets on April 10, 2015, without any such requirement of 36 jets given by the Indian Air Force and without the approval of the Defence Acquisition Council, which are the mandated first steps for any defense procurement.
    2. The IAF had in fact been asking for at least 126 fighter jets which had been approved by the DAC, tenders had been issued, 6 companies had applied, two were shortlisted and finally, Dassault was selected as the lowest tender. The tender was on the basis that 126 fighters would be procured out of which only 18 would be bought in a ready to fly condition and the remaining would be manufactured in India by HAL with a transfer of technology by HAL.
the benchmark price of 36 Rafale aircraft was fixed by three senior officials in the price negotiating committee, at 5.2 billion euros. However, this price was unilaterally increased by the cabinet committee on security headed by the PM Modi to 8.2 billion euros and the contract was finally awarded for 7.2 billion euros. The per aircraft cost for the 36 aircraft deal comes to around Rs 1650 crore. This can be contrasted with the price mentioned by the then Defence Minister Parrikar himself in an interview immediately after April 10, 2015, where he said that the 126 aircraft in the earlier deal would have cost around 90000 crores which is about Rs 715 crore per aircraft.

    As always, well explained.

Is this BJP able to understand or digest such details. RELEASE pricing details once for all, no sealed envelopes and hiding behind the lamp posts for cover, be TRANSPARENT as promised.

There are more efforts done by Govt to cover up rather than to provide FACTS.

Shame on Defense Minster and all involved in this deal. come out and tell the FACTS.

Please be assured that the Rafale is not at all impacting credibility of our defence forces as nobody will attack us unprovoked all of a sudden. This should not be an excuse to defend what went wrong with the deal and if there was any corruption or conflict of interest.

A JPC Probe would have set to rest all the speculation and alleged misinformation.

Senior leaders like Arun Shourie, Yashwant Sinha and Prashant Bhushan have submitted incriminating evidence to the CBI and to scuttle the proble by the CBI, The CBI Director was relieved of his duties in a mid night coup.

Government tried to confuse Supreme Court and the Court did exactly same. There is no report or redacted report of CAG and nothing was passed to the JPC. Why the Court hurriedly summed up the case without examine the sensitive issues on Rafale is under suspicion. Court did not open the sealed cover and did not go through pricing which is most important area of corruption. The court also did not question on the selection of indigenous production agency Reliance Aeronautics Ltd which connects the corruption channel between Dassault and Indian politicians.

None of these BJP spoke persons addressing Ambani connection. All they are doing is taking shelter behind Defense establishment to save their skin. Did the same thing during the so called 'surgical strikes' over hyping of which has been exposed by defense personnel themselves.

It's the misinformation you have given intentionally to SC and you have admitted the same and asked SC to review its order. Why did you inact privilege motion against RG if you have lied to SC in your report in sealed envelope to SC????. Don't drag defence forces to your rescue they have nothing to do with this. Conduct JPC then all issues pertaining to Rafale will be cleared.
