Haryana Minister wants Rajiv Gandhi punished posthumously for anti-Sikh riots

Chandigarh, Dec 18 (IANS): Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij kicked up a new controversy on Monday when he demanded that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi should be "punished posthumously" so that families of about 3,400 Sikhs, who died in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, get justice.

In his tweet, Vij said that the Delhi High Court has sentenced Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who was one of the accused of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, to life imprisonment.

"This has provided little relief to affected Sikh families, but justice will be delivered when Rajiv Gandhi will be punished. Then Rajiv Gandhi had supported the massacre by saying 'Jab koi bada ped girta hai to dharti hilti hai'," Vij, who is a senior BJP leader in Haryana, said in his tweet in Hindi.

The Minister, who is known for making controversial comments, said that along with the "Bharat Ratna" conferred on Rajiv Gandhi, all other honours should be withdrawn from him.

Vij also demanded that Rajiv Gandhi's name should be removed from all the schemes being run after his name.

He said not only one or two persons but the entire Congress Party is guilty of the massacre of thousands of Sikhs.

"Justice is incomplete until everyone gets sentenced," he added.

Haryana has a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government since October 2014.

The Delhi High Court on Monday convicted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case and sentenced him to imprisonment for life.

By the same logic what punishment does he propose for Narendra Modi? Rajiv Gandhi's fault was that he took no action for 3 days and the riots happened. Narendra Modi was in total control of the state as CM and indirectly instigated the Riots. Therefore what punishment should be given to him?

I wonder why all the morons exist in a single party?
Rajiv wasn't sworn in as PM when the riots took place, he didn't defend the killings but he was in a state of shock at the loss of his mother betrayed by her own bodyguards, he might have said it in a gentler way than the supporters of Gujarath Riots of 2002. Rajiv went on air immediately after he took over as care taker PM with an appeal to stop all the riots & it yielded good results, is that wrong?
If same thing should be applied to the 2002 riots, Modi & A Shah were in charge as CM & Home mInister ? They should be held guilty for not taking prompt action to end the riots or rather looking other way & rewarding those police officers with promotion who had helped the rioters while transferring & demoting those who fired on the mobs & stopped killing of minority community people.
There was strong rumor with evidence pointing fingers at RSS cadres involved in the mobs who killed sikhs in Delhi & muslims in Gujarath too, should we punish the above leaders & RSS Leaders of that time for doing that ?
