Petrol price up, diesel declines


New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS): Petrol prices across the four metropolitan cities rose marginally on Saturday, while the cost of diesel declined.

In the national capital, petrol was sold at Rs 70.34, against Rs 70.29 per litre on Friday, data on the Indian Oil Corporation website showed.

Prices in the other key cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai on Saturday were Rs 72.43, Rs 75.96, Rs 72.99 per litre, respectively, up from the previous levels of Rs 70.29, Rs 72.38 and Rs 72.94 per litre.

Price of the key transportation fuel rose for the first time in two months on Thursday and remained unchanged on Friday.

As per the country's dynamic pricing mechanism, the domestic fuel prices depend upon international fuel prices on a 15-day average and the value of the rupee.

Cost of diesel declined for the second consecutive day with the fuel being sold at Rs 64.50 per litre in Delhi on Saturday, down from the previous level of Rs 64.57 per litre.

In Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, diesel was priced at Rs 66.26, Rs 67.50 and Rs 68.10 respectively, against Friday's levels of Rs 66.33, Rs 67.58 and Rs 68.18 per litre.
