Udupi, Dec 15: Indian Catholic Youth Movement Kolalagiri Unit in association with Udupi taluk, Karavali Milan Dubai and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Kolalagiri are organising Udupi diocese level sports meet ‘Sports Festa-2018’ at Milagres College ground, Kallianpur, Udupi, here on Saturday, December 23, said Fr Prakash Anil Castelino, parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
“On the occasion of Christmas, the sports event is organised for the first time to unite Christian communities under a roof and to encourage sports talents,” he said at Udupi press club, in a press meet on Saturday, December 15.
The sports meet will have track events, 100mtr, 200mtr, 400mtr, 800mtr and 4*100 mtr relay (separate for men and women). Another 4*100 mtr relay is also organised which will have men and women mixed team.
Field events like short put, discus throw, long jump and high jump (separate for men and women) will be held.
Special events such as tug-of war (males and females mixed team consisting of 5 women and 4 men and total 9 participants in a team) will be held.
The first, second and third prize winners will get attractive medals, certificates and cash prizes. Individual championships in men’s and women’s category will also be presented.
The winner of event will get Rs 15,000 cash prize, runner will get Rs 10,000 cash prize and third place winners will get Rs 5000 cash prize along with attractive medals, certificate.
“It is expected around 40-45 teams will participate, and about 800 -900 participants will be present. We have planning to organize such events on a larger scale in future,” said Fr Prakash Anil Castelino.
The inauguration ceremony of sports meet will be held at 8 am. Fr Dr Lawrence C D’souza, general priest Kallianpur zone and correspondent of Milagres education institutions will be the inaugurator. Rev Fr Msgr Baptist Menezes, Catholic diocese, vicar general, and Udupi Catholic diocese will be preside over the function.
Fr Prakash Anil Castelino will extend the welcome.
Pramod Madhwaraj, former minister for sports and youth empowerment will be chief guest of the event.

Fr Prakash Anil Castelino, parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus church Kolalagiri, will preside over the valedictory ceremony, which will begin at 5.00 pm.
