Mangaluru: Bethany Champions Day celebrated

Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 15: The Bethany Educational Society, Mangaluru province celebrated Bethany Champions Day on December 15 at Maryvale High School and Rosa Mystica English Medium School, Kinnigoli.

460 Bethany Champions of all the Educational Institutions of the Province participated in the same.

Bethany Champions is a movement of the congregation of Bethany Sisters, under the leadership of Bethany Education society, Mangaluru, to enable the Catholic students to excel on wings of excellence. Our founder, the Servant of God Fr R F C Mascarenhas through his obsessive desire preached the gospel to the poor; he longed to help and sought ways and means to fulfil his desire. Throughout the academic year, the association of Bethany Champions is coordinated by a guide under the leadership of
the headmistress/principal.

The days’ sessions were conducted by the Redemptorist Fathers from Moodbidri. Fr Rakesh Mathias CSSr and Fr Richard Fernandes dealt on the topic Biblical leadership. With the examples of great leaders of the Old Testament they enabled the students to capture the traits of great leaders of the Bible. It was joyful to note that the students were able to grasp the symbols used for great leaders of the Bible.

Fr Deric D Cruz and Fr Ivan D Souza enlightened the Bethany champions in building their self-esteem and self-confidence. Through different activities and episodes, the message was brought home that as budding leaders they need to take every opportunity for greater learning with courage. The students were eager to learn new insights on befriending Social Media so as to explore what is good and useful in this digital world. It was said that as students we need to set priority at all levels and strive hard to reach the goal. The students were elated by the presence of Bro Calroy Alvares, Bro Ajay Fernandes, Bro Viketh Pinto and Bro Jaison Fernandes who kept the group alive, active through their ‘sing song’ and action songs. The exercise of God in prayer, listening to the Word of God was made alive in prayer.

Sr Joyceline Mascarenhas and Sr Jessy Leena BS moderated the programme of the day at Maryvale and Rosa Mystica respectively. Sr Nisha BS welcomed the gathering. Sr Shanthi Agnes BS and Sr Anita Lydia BS hosted the programme in their respective schools. Sr Mariola BS the Province Coordiantor coordinated the programme. With a festive meal the Bethany champions departed to their homes as seekers of knowledge and taking on the responsibility of living to build a better world around them.
