Govt misled SC, gave wrong facts about CAG report on Rafale deal: Kharge

New Delhi, Dec 15 (PTI): A day after the Supreme Court verdict on the Rafale deal, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said he will request all members of the panel to summon the Attorney General and the CAG to ask them when was the public auditor's report tabled in Parliament.

The senior Congress leader accused the government of "misleading" the Supreme Court by presenting wrong facts about the CAG report on the Rafale deal and demanded that the government should apologise for it.

Kharge also said they respect the Supreme Court, but it is not a probe agency and only a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) can investigate the alleged corruption in the Rafale deal.

"I will request the PAC members to call the Attorney General (AG) and the Comptroller and Auditor General to ask them when was the CAG report on the Rafale deal tabled in Parliament," he told reporters.

Kharge also cited the Supreme Court judgement that stated that the CAG report on Rafale pricing had been tabled in Parliament and discussed in the PAC.

"When has the CAG discussed the PAC report? It has not been table so far. Wrong information is being feeded in the Supreme Court, it is a matter of shock...Government should apologise for misleading SC by presenting wrong facts on CAG report before Supreme Court," he said.

Can the law be interpreted differently in every situation? SC could order suo-moto case all by itself in 2G,CWG,3G, coal etc...great. UPA lost good will of people as each were considered as scams where some one is favored with Govt policy.

What is shameful is neither SC nor Modi led BJP, could give justice to India. All proved wrong and malicious accusation.

Now this is similar policy decision, much greyer than any of the above. Yet, SC thinks it can not touch what is in executive domain.

    Quite a contradiction by itself.

There will never be a JPC on Rafael.
    Forget about it.
Congress should have thought about it before approaching the Supreme court.
Ofcourse sikulars will say that congress didnt approach the court.
We all know who shouri and sinha are working for these days. Not for BJP, thats for sure.

This judgement has no significance, as what the SC was never a right forum for this issue. Besides with what selected documents the government forwarded and what they did not forward saying against the security of the nation, the SC came to a conclusion with a rider. The actual forum is a JPC. Where all documents r to be presented. Then on the JPC report a CBI inquiry can be initiated. It’s so simple.
