Udupi, Dec 13: “Those who face any type of in convenience while carrying out sand mining will be provided with police protection. We had received a complaint from Uppoor village in Udupi regarding disruption to conduct sand mining. We have immediately informed the SP to provide police protection at the spot”, said Vidya Kumari, assistant district commissioner of Udupi.

Addressing the gathering Vidya Kumari said, “The license holders should start mining by December 17. If they failed, their license will be cancelled. There is no shortage of sand in our district. We have conducted a survey through NITK Surathkal and then only we have given away the license”, she said.

Gram panchayat elections

“Elections will be held for some of the gram Panchayats of Kundapur and Byndoor talluks where the term of office will end soon. Elections will also be held in some other gram panchayat constituencies where the seat has become vacant due to resignation or death of the members”, said assisstant district commissioner.

“The nominations will be received from December 17. Last date to submit the nominations is December 20. On January 2, 2019 elections will be conducted. The code of conduct will be applicable in the constituencies where elections will be held”, she added.

In Gangolli, Byndoor and Yadtare of Kundapur and Byndoor talluk respectively the multi choice electronic voting machines will be used for the first time for gram panchayat elections in the district.

Crop loan waiving scheme

“Farmers who have taken crop loans from DCC banks and other societies and commercial banks are required to submit their Adhaar card, ration card along with self declaration to the bank officials before January 10, 2019. More than 24,000 farmers are eligible under this scheme from societies. Nearly 4,500 farmers of commercial banks are eligible under this scheme,” said Vidya Kumari.

“A total amount of Rs 258 crore is sanctioned for the crop loan waiving scheme. Rs 2 lac per family in commercial bank loan will be waived, where as Rs 1 lac of the DCC and other societies will be waived of per family. Beneficiaries of one bank are not eligible to waiving scheme in another bank. The documents can be submitted in the bank during its working hours”, she added.
