Puttur, Dec 13: Education plays a predominant role in this world. It is a key to develop the society. There is a day by day advancement in the field of education. it is the ultimate pathway of success. It supports and encourages each and every individual-‘Being educated is the biggest asset’. Keeping this in mind Msgr Antony Patrao felt that a college in this part of the state would save the people from the inconvenience of moving to distance places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and founded St Philomena PU College in 1958.

This year has been a pivotal year to one and all of St Philomena PU College. It is an important milestone a year as the college completes 60 glorious years of excellence and service in the field of education. It’s time to rejoice the success that has been achieved and wish to correct the short coming of the past, try to face better in the future and look forward with a sense of hope towards greater growth and progress in view of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, 60 has been a number that various programs have been revolving around.



•Leadership Training programme was organized. Dr.Rajesh Bejjangala, Lecturer, Government P.U.College, Kasaragod was the resource person.
•A Session on ‘Bhasha Adyayanadalli Vyakarana’ was organized. Vidhwan Venkatramana Bhat, Majalgiri was the resource person.
•A Seminar on ‘Vachana Sahithyada Prasthuthathe’ was conducted. Mr. Sanjay B.S, Lecturer was the resources person.
•A Programme on ‘Career Guidance and Effective learning skill’ was conducted. Prof. Ronaldo Pinto, Ex-Vice Principal was the resource person.
•A Programme on ‘Self Defence Technique’ was organized. Mr. Karthik S kateel was the resources person.
•A Workshop on ‘Chem – Magic’ was organized. Prof. Ronaldo Mascarenhas, Rtd. Professor of Chemistry was the resource person.
•An Individual visit to Campco Chocolate Factory was arranged.
•A Programme on ‘Health and Food’ was organized. Dr.Chethana, Ayurvedic and Yoga Consultant was the resource person.
•An interaction session on ‘Multimedia’ was arranged. Mr.Krishnaprasad Nadsar, managing director of Anikethana educational trust was the resource person.
•A Session on ‘Role of values in personality Development’ was conducted. Prof. M. Dattatreya Rao was the resource person.
•A Programme on ‘Manaveeya Moulyagalu’ was organized. Sri. B. C. Rao, shiapura, HR Trainer for JCI was the resource person.
•State Level Hockey Tournament for Men and Women of PUC was organized. More than 250 teams participated.
•Principal’s Diary was released at D. K. District P. U. Colleges Principals meet at St Philomena P. U. College.
•A Staff Enrichment programme was arranged. Dr. Gururaj Karjagi, Chairman, International Academy of Creative Teaching, Bangalore was the resource person.
•A Session on ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was organized. Mr.Prashanth Bhat, Lecturer in Chemistry was the resource person.
•Foundation Stone of the Laboratory Block was blessed by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’souza.
•A Session on ‘Importance of Sports and Games’ was conducted. Mr.Dayananda Rai, Kommonda, Physical Director was the resource person.
•An Educational Visit to Dr. Shivarama Karantha Balavana was conducted.
•‘My Stamp’ a special postal stamp was released Rev. Fr. Dennis Moras and Mrs. Shakunthala T Shetty were present on the occasion and released the stamp.
•Logo of St Philomena P. U. College was released Mr. Ramanatha Rai released the logo.
•Mr S Rajendra kumar, PMG, South Karnataka region, Bangalore released the postal cover.
•A session on ‘Leadership training’ was organized JCI HGF Manmohan Balladka was the resource person.
•A seminar on ‘Success is not an accident’ was arranged Mr. Karthik Upparana D was the resource person.
•Hindi Divas was celebrated. Mrs. Shobha, Teacher, Indraprasta Vidyalaya, Uppinangady was the resource person.
•‘Prathiba-2018’ – District Level Inter High School Competition was organized Mr. Balarama Acharya, Managing Director of G.L. Jewels and Alumnus was the Guest of Honor.
•Staff Enrichment training programme was organized. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Librarian, S.D.M. College was the resource person.
•A seminar on ‘Corruption and it misuse’ was organized. Mr. Ajay Kumar, S.I, Sampya Police Station was the resource person.
•Diamond Trail, a Half Marathon was organized. Mr. Sunil Shetty, Alumnus and International Level Weight Lifter was the Chief Guest.
•A Workshop on ‘How to Face Examination’ was organized Mr. Abdul Samad, Lecture in English was the resource person.
•A book on ‘Mane Sanjeevini’ was released Mr. Shiva Bhat was the Chief Guest.
•A session on ‘Invention of Ancient Epics’ was organized. Mr. Radha Krishna Bhat, Bellare was the resource person.
•A rally was organized with a motto ‘Let’s Save Mother Earth’.
•Talents Day – an Inter Class Cultural Competition was organized. Mr. Tejaswi, Magician was the Chief Guest.
•A programme on Holiday with Nature was organized.
•An Environment Awareness Rally was conducted.
•Inauguration of Mangalore Scout and Guide Fellowship Guide was organized. M.A.K. Mecci, Anu Thimmayya and Munira B Mistry were present on the occasion.
•A programme on ‘Legal Awareness’ was organized Dr. B.K. Ravindra, Director of Legal Studies, Vivekananda Law College, Puttur was the resource person.
•A programme on ‘Geetha Vaividhya’ was organized. Mr. Vittal Nayak was the resource person.
•St Philomena P. U. College was awarded as E-waste free campus.
•An Orientation programme for Common Proficiency Test was conducted. Mr. C.A. Jaganath kamath was the resource person.
•A workshop on Goods and Service Tax was organized. Mr. Usha Kamath was the resource person.
•A programme on ‘Kandadonji Dina’ was conducted. Fr. Vijay Lobo, Principal, St Philomena P. U. College was the Chief Guest.
•An Orientation Programme on Common Entrance Test was organized Rev. Fr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director was the resource person.
•A Programme on ‘Navy Training’ was organized Lieutenant Jayanath Subbiah, Indian Navy, Vishakapatanam was the resource person.
•Parent – Teacher Interaction was conducted. Mr. Rajendra Bhat, the Head Master was the resource person.
•A talk on E-waste was arranged. M.A.K. Mecci, National Secretary General, Indian Scout and Guide Fellowship, was the resource person.
•A seminar on ‘Student –Science and Rationalism’ was organized Dr. Kishore Kumar Rai, Sheni, Principal, Sri Ramakrishna P. U. College, Mangalore was the resource person.
•An awareness programme was conducted on Dengue, Malaria and Nipah. Dr. Raghavendran Prasad, Prasad Clinic and Health Care Center, Purusharakatte was the resource person.
•A programme on ‘Water Literacy’ was organized Dr. Joseph N.M., Associate Professor was the resource person.
•National Statistical Day was celebrated.
•An Educational Visit was arranged to Mr. Gopalakrishna Bhat’s, Agricultural Farm at Kanavu near savanoor.
•A talk on ‘Internet on Things’ was organized Mr. Prabhakar N.K. Lecturer in Computer Science was the resource person.
•A seminar on “Folk Life and changes” was organized. Dr. Sudha Kenaje, Folk Researcher was the resource person.
•An Interactive session on Space Science was arranged. Shri B. Yesobu, Deputy Manager, OSTC, ISRO, MCF Hassan was the resource person.
•A programme on ‘Philo – Sinchana’, the glory of music was organized. Vidhushi Suchithra Holla was the resource person.
•A workshop on ‘Train Your Brain’ was organized. JCI HGF Manmohan Balladka was the resource person.

Such a brilliant record of activities owes much to the able leadership of the college management and the hard work of lecturers. Together they have developed effective educational strategies for the benefit of their students.

The valedictory ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of St Philomena PU College will be held on December 18, 2018. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru diocese and president of CBE, is the president. Dr Devi Prabha Alva, Alumnus, HOD, Dept of Commerce, St Agnes College, Mangaluru is the chief guest. Very Rev. Fr. Antony M Shera, Secretary, CBE, Mangalore and Prof. Leo Noronha, Principal, St Philomena College are the Guest of Honour.

Fr Alfed J Pinto, the correspondent, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Campus Director and Fr Vijay Lobo, the Principal are rendering their valuable service with a motto, “ Faith in Service ”.

The college is an exemplary in so many ways that it has every reason to look back on its 60 years with pride and satisfaction and its sure that St Philomena PU College with its rich experience in education, can also build on its strength and rise to the challenge ahead.
