Gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir


Srinagar, Dec 12 (IANS): A gunfight started on Wednesday between the holed up militants and security forces at a village in Sopore area in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Following information about the presence of militants, the security forces surrounded Gund Brath village, police said.

"As the security forces tightened the cordon, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter which is underway," police said.

High-beam lights have been fixed around the gunfight site to ensure the militants are prevented from escaping.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Sopore town.
