Karkala, Dec 12: Belman tollgate, which had been relegated to backburner after strong protests by the people opposed to it, showing the signs of becoming a reality soon. The process of opening the gate has been set into motion.

Upholding the request made by toll contractor, Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd (KRDL) has written to Udupi district deputy commissioner, seeking protection during the works relating to the tollgate at Belman. Mitra Infra Solution from Mysuru has bagged the contract. It has also remitted the money as required to the government. As locals have been protesting against the tollgate, it is the duty of the government to provide protection, the officials said.

Copies of this letter were also endorsed to Vijay Gowda, who owns Mitra Infra, KRDL project office executive engineer, and secretary of PWD engineering department.

It is said that the said letter was written on November 23.
