Arsenal snatches 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town in EPL

London, Dec 9 (IANS): Arsenal earned a late 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on the strength of a bicycle kick by Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira to continue their chase of the Premier League's top two teams.

Although Arsenal created numerous scoring chances on Saturday but a lack of precision in the final touch prevented them from breaking down Huddersfield's resistance, reports Efe.

The scoreless deadlock reigned until the 83rd minute, when Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent a cross into the area and Torreira thrilled the crowd at Emirates Stadium by putting the ball home with a bicycle kick.

Torreira's second goal of the season got Arsenal back in the winner's circle in the Premier League after their 2-2 mid-week draw against Manchester United.

With the victory, Arsenal provisionally holds the third spot with 34 points, while Huddersfield suffered their 10th defeat and currently sit in the 18th spot with 10 points.

Earlier in the day, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick to lead Liverpool to a 4-0 rout of Bournemouth.

Salah opened the scoring - and tallied his 40th Premier League goal - in the 25th minute when he put home a ball that had ricocheted off Bosnian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic's body.

He became the fastest Liverpool player to notch his 40th Premier League goal, achieving that milestone in just his 52nd appearance for the Reds.

He eclipsed the mark of Fernando Torres, who needed 60 matches to achieve that feat.

Liverpool's talisman added a second goal just three minutes into the second half when he dribbled around a Bournemouth defender and found the back of the net with a left-footed shot.

After Bournemouth defender Steve Cook scored an own goal in the 68th minute, Salah completed his hat-trick by dribbling around Begovic twice before putting the ball home in the 77th minute.

With the win, Liverpool provisionally is on top of the Premier League table with 42 points pending Manchester City's clash Saturday against Chelsea.

Bournemouth provisionally holds the eighth spot with 23 points.

Elsewhere, Burnley ended their eight-match winless drought by defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal by centre back James Tarkowski.
