Mangaluru, Dec 7: An audio clip purported to contain conversation between a police head constable here and a person accused in certain cases, has been giving sleepless nights to the police. In the said audio, it is said that the head constable is heard demanding payment of bribe in exchange for providing information about certain persons.

City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that an investigation has been undertaken into this issue. "We are looking into the genuineness of the voices in the said audio which is claimed to have happened between head constable, Chandrashekhar, and accused, Rafiq. A police team is also investigating about the spot and time of the recording of the audio clip," he said.

The anti-rowdy squad of city crime branch police had arrested Rafiq during August. He was arrested on the charge of carrying arms in his car. The audio clip was found in the cellphone of Rafiq. The cellphone also stands seized. There are claims that this audio clip has been made public with the objective of settling personal scores against Chandrashekhar.

The police commissioner said that head constable, Chandrashekhar, was actively involved with unearthing of cases and finding out the culprits in the past. "He has been identified as an efficient official, and so far there have been no complaint against him," he added.

Chandrashekhar, who has been serving the anti-rowdy squad and city crime branch since the last 18 years, knows several languages and has wide contacts.   He had won appreciation from senior officials in the department. He had played a stellar role in the probe relating to Sanjeev Shetty Silks shootout and Mulky shootout cases and also in finding out accused in murders connected with underworld fugitive, Kali Yogish, Deepak Rao and Basheer Ahmed. The team including him had helped the district police to investigate murder cases of Ashraf Kalya and Sharath Madiwala.

The commissioner said that the police team will also look into whether anyone from the police department was involved with the audio tape leak.

Sometimes we desist us from speaking truth and corruption is one the key burning issue in India. The corruption need to be treated as a grave offence against the state / Nation. Kindly provide decent salary and facilities to the government servants and let government shall collect good fee for processing any government related works with time deadline

I urge and appeal every like minded educated people to use spy camera and Mobile Audio record to nab corrupt officials and however ensure that the original scripts/ records are intact and proceed to save this great proud country from corrupt government officials / politicians.

Never trust any police officer involved in "encounters". Usually, a lot of underhand business, and hefty sums are involved in "finishing off" someone instead of dealing with the culprit lawfully
