J P Hegde to join JDS, to be coalition candidate from Udupi in LS 2019?

Political Correspondent

Daijiworld Media Network

Udupi, Dec 7 : If sources close to CM HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leader, former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde are to be believed, the stage is set for a big political move in Udupi Lok Sabha constituency before just few months left for Lok Sabha election early next year.

J P Hegde, considered a secular political leader, who had a capacity of winning polls even without identifying with any political parties, and who served as state cabinet minister and as a Member of Parliament from Congress, is an ordinary BJP worker now without much attention from either party cadre or top leaders.

J P Hegde had joined BJP to protest against the denial of MLC ticket to him. He had stood as an independent in the MLC polls, but lost. Subsequently, he was expelled from the party.

Rumours were circulated around during state assembly polls that JP Hegde might seek 'Ghar Vapsi' provided he was given ticket from Kundapur or Byndoor. After the tremendous victory of BJP in the entire coastal belt, the prospects of JP Hegde in the party were further slimmed. Only his staunch followers, who were with him right from his initial political career, remained with him.

As per the sources, JP Hegde met chief minister H D Kumaraswamy recently and expressed his willingness to join JDS provided he was given the opportunity to contest polls from Udupi – Chikkamagaluru constituency. It is also reported that Hegde also met Congress leader Ahmed Patel in New Delhi to accept his candidature from Udupi, so that Congress high command will not oppose his name.

If both these reports are true, then the stage will be ready here for this planned move in Udupi Lok Sabha constituency after the five-state election results are out.

The reports from BJP also say that present MP Shobha Karandlaje is not so keen to contest this time and this has opened the door for many young candidates to seek ticket from Udupi Chikkamagaluru constituency. There is a strong voice, supported by Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, that 'original' BJP workers must be given a chance instead of any migrated candidates.

Clarification from J P Hegde

Speaking to Daijiworld, J P Hegde denied the news of joining JDS. He also said that he has not met Congress leader Ahmed Patel and CM H D Kumaraswamy in this regard.

Never trust people who jump from party to party. This man has already changed three or more parties.
I do agree BJP must change Udupi MP candidate Shoba Karandalaje she is not there for the people who elected her.
Parties should find candidates who will work for the people who elected them.

JDS votes in Udupi constituency is five thousand max. He had better opprtunity had he not left Congress considering current MP's good for nothing performance. Congress may not take him back. If he contests as independent.... benefit to BJP. JPH spoiled his political future being too greedy. He is a good performer and non corrupt for sure! But difficult to win against brain washed and religion affiliated coastal voters!

Mr. Hegde was in Mr. Devegowda ministry (JDS) in mid 1990's, he know JDS leadership. He is regarded as the most efficient minister, completed many projects for Brahmavar constituency, including numerous service roads, bridges to connect villages to main cities. A Popular personality of coastal Karnataka since decades. Congress has less chances in Udupi Lok Sabha constituency, JDS does not have strong base in twin districts. This makes JP Hegde as a strong viable coalition candidate. In case Udupi constituency is given to JDS, and Mr. Hegde is their coalition candidate, it will be difficult for BJP in 2019.

Good decision. Because BJP uses and throws leaders like S.M.Krishna, Srinivas Prasad and so on. Oscar Fernandes ignored J.P.Hegde. Oscar Fernandes, Veerrappa Moily , Janardhana Poojary , Ramanatha Rai and others never groomed any leaders in DK and Udupi districts. This was the reason for J.P.Hegde to leave the Congress party. It is the right time for J.P. to join JDS.

Now it is changed and people started to say everybody is corrupt, let us vote the party not the candidate. That is why more and more criminals and corrupt candidates getting chance.

Dear all. I do not see anything unusual here. Its a smart move though. Cong has lost recognition in the state and stooped to new low after unconditionally supporting JDS, LETS ALL ADMIT IT. It was all to ensure the career of the 'ever losing ' president RaGa stays alive. Now its JDS that rules and gen public is happy with HDK and HDD. A hard worker like Mr. J.R. Lobo had to face defeat against a absolute new comer, ONLY due to his party affiliation. Its high time Mr, Lobo too contemplates. His supporters too need to open their eyes.

He is loved by people due to him simplicity and care for the people and JDS should give him a chance as we are fed up with current MP who is useless and good for nothing Shobha.
