AgustaWestland deal ‘middleman’ Christian Michel brought to India

New Delhi, Dec 5(PTI): Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman in politically-sensitive Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland chopper deal, was brought to India late on Tuesday night following his extradition by the UAE, the CBI said.

He was questioned by the central investigating agency through the night.

Michel will be produced in court on Wednesday.

Michel, 57, landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on a Gulfstream jet at 2235 hours, official sources to news agency PTI said. He was arrested in the UAE last year on the basis of an Interpol notice and was out on a bail.

The operation code-named 'Unicorn' was carried out under the guidance of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and being coordinated by interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao, the CBI spokesperson said.

A team of the agency's officers led by Joint Director Sai Manohar was in Dubai to bring him back, it said.
The agency said that Michel has been brought back to India after completion of the extradition process. The UAE government had cleared the extradition of Michel after his appeal against the move was turned down by a court there.

Michel's alleged involvement in the chopper deal surfaced in 2012 as a middleman for swinging the deal in favour of AgustaWestland and for making illegal payment of commissions or kickbacks to the Indian authorities, CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said. Michel was wanted for investigation but he escaped and had avoided joining the probe, he said.

A charge sheet was filed against him in September last year. "An open non-bailable arrest warrant dated September 24, 2015, was issued by the special judge, CBI cases, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi," CBI spokesperson said. On the basis of this warrant, a Red Corner Notice was issued by the Interpol which led to his arrest in Dubai in February 2017, he said.

His extradition process and the successful operation all aimed at tarnishing congress leaders image (only if any foul play is proved) and everything is synchronized to benefit in coming elections.

    That is the main purpose.

But Dassault fighter jets deal is still under SC probe and will not be completed only before the elections. It is not done for the interest of the country but to increase his chances of gaining voters confidence. Master of crooked plannings.

Is BJP boasting its ability to bring a BRITISH national ? Well, they failed in bringing back both the LaMo/NiMo, Choksi, Mallya.

Meaning, Indian chors are more powerful than the British ?? Or, something inside Guttu is holing BJP back from action ?

Do you seriously believe politicians are honest?
Modi government has brought back Michel to tighten the case around Gandhi family. If there is truth in the allegations, let them be punished, I don't have any problems. If Congress comes to power next, it will bring in Mehul, nirav and malya and reveal all the guttus if any and punish the guilty, I don't have any problems

Please wait till what this man will puke.
If anything that he says will not meet the expectations of Indians especially BJP supporters (that Gandhi family has gained out of his services), just imagine the animosity Modi garners.
Especially for the cost he paid to bring Christian back. Including the exchange of two Keralite fishermen. Lets wait to hear the man opening his mouth.

I too feel so, Rajesh, because if Sonia had made money out this, she would not have been in India by 2014. Christian's extradition is a pill Modi will regret for the rest of his life.

Modi is going pay highly for this blunder of his as well as for the Black money bringing back @ 15L per each Indian.

Talking about Modi's animociti, how about yours & bunch of howlers, howling nonstop against a man, who is been greatly respected world over. A small fraction of left over Congress supporters of this world like you, with loudly visible frustration can keep howling till this country becomes mukth of the family who have swindled for generations. Neither Mr. Bean nor others from the party are not approaching the court on Rafael instead of this howling nonstop. But ignorant like you conveniently forget that both mother & son are out on bail & keeping them company in the bailghadi are chidambaram family. Dhamaadji is next in line with Hooda already been under ED's notice& the property already confiscated. So keep the howling match going.
