Mangaluru, Dec 4: Central Market Merchants' Association demanded to provide an alternative market with basic facilities for all shop keepers working in the present central market.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, December 4, president of the association, M Ahmed Bava said, "A new central market is coming up in PPP model under Smart City project. Smart City meeting was held in the month of August under district in-charge minister U T Khader and Deputy Commissioner (DC). During the meeting it was assured to provide a alternative market, but so far this assurance is not fulfilled."

"In a newspaper article about central market it was published that only 132 shopkeepers are occupying the central market. This number has led to confusion among us. We hereby clarify that there are 132 shops of vegetables, grocery and fruits, 342 retail and wholesale shops and 18 flower shops. So we urge to provide alternative market to all these shops existing in the central market before demolishing it," Bava added.

"We support the demolition of central market to construct a new central market. But our demand is that all shopkeepers should have a provision to run their business in the alternative market with all basic facilities," said Bava.

General secretary Janardhana Salian, vice-president Gracy Fernandes and others were present.

APMC market at Baikampady is lying idle for many years. Whole sellers can shift there. Also Mangaluru needs a proper city bus stand.

First of all Wenlock should be shifted to the outskirts where it is silent for patients. Then a huge commercial centre with market and all A to Z items can be constructed with good parking facilities.
The main road can be broadened and then you can say Mangalore is a smart city. Also there should be a big walkway as people can park their vehicles and do shopping at one place and people who are health conscious can us it for their walking purposes also. Demolish the full market road..

Its better to shift central market out of city centre. it will help to grow business in other places also. First build new market and shift the vendors from here.

MCC must make present Central Market only for Retail business and the Whole sale market must shift to out skirts of Mangalore. Otherwise the whole area will be totally traffic congestion. In every big cities Retail market is separate from Whole sale. That place is called as SUBJI MMANDI. Loading and unloading must always away from Retail Central place. Then only Smart City will look clean and Smart.

What about chicken stalls where live chicken are sold ?
Also, narrow passage where they dry fish wheree the drain flowing beside road sides. !
It's high time to arrange for alternative place to reduce congestion with veichles, vendors, shoppers flocking at the present central market.

The present market stinks, especially the mutton stall is extremely congested, filthy and dirty.

I have stopped going to this market since two years.
