‘Nature Protection is My Responsibility’ campaign to be held by Mangaluru diocese

Mangaluru, Nov 21: The diocese of Mangaluru with its bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha has begun a campaign, in remembrance of his Episcopal Ordination ‘Laudato Si- Nature Protection is my Responsibility’ in all parishes, chapel, religious houses of men and women, educational institutions and other institutions of the diocese on November 25.

This campaign will be executed in three levels.

Sunday Liturgy / prayers and planting of the saplings given by the bishop in each parish, chapel, religious house for men and women, educational institutions and other institutions, on November 25, according the instructions given by the committee. The bishop has already given a teak wood sapling which will be planted according to the instructions given by the committee.

Msgr Maxim Noronha, vicar general of Mangaluru diocese will plant a sapling at Vorkady parish, Kasargod district, Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, procurator and PRO of Mangaluru diocese, will plant a sapling in Kokkada parish.

The bishop has already inaugurated this campaign on his Episcopal Ordination day on September 15 by planting a coconut sapling at Rosario Cathedral Mangaluru.

Slogan writing competitions on ‘Nature protection - My responsibility’. The slogans can be written in Kannada, English, Konkani and Tulu on the theme. Best slogan in each language will be rewarded with a prize. These slogans will be displayed in the prominent places.

A pledge campaign: Nature Protection is My Responsibility. A pledge will be taken by the individuals with the signature to affirm their willingness to protect the earth in parishes, chapel, religious houses of men and women, educational institutions and other institutions of the diocese. The aim is to reach out at least 2,00,000 people who commit themselves to the care of common home , the mother Earth.

There will be a lucky draw on January 26, 2019 and the winner will awarded with one sovereign gold coin.

Laudato Si committee has been formed by the bishop to monitor the whole campaign.

    Great Idea..Good deed.
    Save the nature..save the planet.
    Education begins at home.
    cKeep you r house and surrounding clean..
    Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
    work is worship

    1/In conjunction with Forest department..Environment..dept.
    City/municipality...
    Start Planting saplings : They are our Other Half of lungs .you breathe out Co2 They absorb ..refine and give you O2
    for our survival.
    So need to have Trees all over the Place.
    keep them neat ..clean.tidy.
    Educate the masses.
    2/Cleaning of Storm water drains..gutters..on the roads should also be undertaken ..
    so spread of MOSQUITO Menace can be Eradicated.
    3/Ensure to build safe Pedestrian crossing/For adults and children.
    building Over head bridges /Under ground tunnels ..coming/going out from schools.. level crossings..
    zebra crossings.
    4/Culture of STOP signs to be introduced like in USA.
    Since education begins at home. then schools. now being civil society. in Collaboration with the
    Police.. Traffic department..
    city/municipality..
    Environment department can all work together and make the students to start working on traffic signals .
    Collecting/cleaning Liter/Garbage one day through out Mangalore.
