Bengaluru, Nov 21: The High Court on Tuesday, November 20, quashed the FIR lodged by Bantwal police on 14 elected representatives including Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and leaders of Hindu outfits on the background of the protest that was held by them condemning the murder of Sharath Madiwala and urging the government to arrest the murderers.

The one member bench of justice Ashok G Nijagannanavar, which conducted the hearing on the appeal filed by Nalin Kumar and 13 others, upheld the argument put by the advocate for the applicants which said that 'The police do not have the right to register a suo moto case for violating the prohibitory orders. The complaint has to be registered by those who have ordered the prohibitory orders’ and ordered the quashing of the FIR.
