New Delhi: Indians going to work in UAE need online registration

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Nov 20: People from the country, who want to visit UAE to work there, have now been mandated to register themselves on the e-Migrate portal of the government with effect from January 1, 2019. Failing compliance, they run the risk of being sent back.

The union external affairs ministry has issued a notice to this effect. As per the notice, Indians visiting 18 countries including UAE have to register themselves in the web portal. This is required for people holding non-ECR (emigration check required) passports going on employment visa. They have to do the registration at least 24 hours before their scheduled travel.

The government has said in the notice that this new rule has been framed to extend protection to and ensure welfare of Indian immigrants. It has made it clear that with effect from January 1 next year, Indians holding non-ECR passports going on employment to 18 listed countries without prior registration on e-Migrate portal will not be allowed to go. It said that those who violate the rules would be offloaded by concerned authorities.

Consul General of India at Dubai said that the rule has been brought to safeguard interests of Indian workers who are in shaky wicket. Indian ambassador to UAE, Navdeep Singh Suri, confirmed that this measure is being taken to protect Indians working in UAE. In addition to UAE, the other countries listed are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Thailand, and Yemen.

As per the e -Migrate portal launched in 2015, Indian citizens with ECR stamps on passports have to get their jobs confirmed through e-Migrate system. It was mainly aimed at protecting interests of unskilled and illiterate blue collar workers. Under this system, over 40,000 foreign companies have registered themselves in the portal.

More than two lac workers came to UAE in 2017 alone. The new system is aimed at extending protection to non-ECR workers also.

The government said that for clarifications if any, Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra in India on toll free No. 1800113090 or 01140503090 (with charges) can be contacted. They can also seek clarification by way of email to helpline@mera.gov.in.

Prabhu must understand that not everyone can sell golibaje and make their living just by eating daal bath. We need change from generation to generation. There is no need for leaving motherland if there are enough decently paying jobs and dignity of life for all the citizen like in some of the western countries. We are not there yet, but heading towards achieving that goal. Please understand that India has about $400 billion in foreign exchange reserve fund which was possible mostly by the remittances from the NRIs. The new regulations are to protect overseas citizens of India as some rogue employers and recruitment agents are cheating the employment seekers.

If you can use the term "Slave" you need to do the soul search and realize how many are still working as slaves in India? Go to the restaurants, hotels, factories and see how the employees are treated. Talk to the domestic help (servants) and get out of their mouth how the madam and sir are treating them. Can a dalith prepare and sell golibaje to Prabhus? I am not going further. We need to change our mindset.

Those who went to overseas for employment are financially well off. Their children are educated in top universities in the world and holding higher positions than their parents. Some of the generous donations to uplift the poor in India come from these NRIs. They enjoy good food, parties, good drinks, vacations and live their life to fullest extent. NRIs are worry free because they don't have black money. They also know how make really tasty, nutritious and healthy golibaje too.

    @NN,
Sir, You have hit all the nails rightly on the head of Prabhu, Karkala .....but it looks like this guy is a shameless creature. Even in the past he has been calling all NRI's working in the gulf as "SLAVES" in this very own portal and the numerous responses he received on such a comment did not make any difference in his attitude. This clearly shows the man's calibre.
It is a fact that many of these Prabhus and others from his community has flourished in their business in Karkala partly because of so called "Slave" NRI's contribution to their businesses which they have conveniently forget.
I am surprised why all those including professionals like Doctors, Engineers, CA's from GSB community working in the gulf countries are not being called back by this Prabhu and start manufacturing Pakodas, golibajes in Karkala.

@ Chandu sir, there are quite a few frogs in the well. They never know there is a huge ocean out there, unless they come out from the well. They are the slaves of their times and never think out of the box. Some of the NRIs or Indian origins living overseas are highly influential. During the globalization, their contributions to develop India was immense. I hope some day India will be one of the superpowers in the world. From golibaje to nuclear bombs, this country has achieved a lot.

This system was already there for ECR holders.
Now they have included Non-ECR holders as well.
This is basically to make the Indian agents accountable in case of any fraud cases.
There is nothing else to make out of it.
People who dont know about this system shouldnt comment on this.

This rule to be effective from January 1,2019 is for people visiting 18 countries, including UAE, is for people with passports mentioning ECR ( Emingration Clearance required) required.

About people going to work in UAE, please note, they are not being treated as slave. UAE law is very effective. People work hard there and save the money to take care of their families and their future which is not possible here because too much of taxation, unavailability of jobs, salaries low and not paid on time etc. So please do not pass bad remarks on people who are going to work there.

The promise of jobs by this government yet not implemented.

Let people who go for work get the ECR clearance done prior of departure.

    You have not fully understood
ECR ( Emigration check required ) are those employees who go to UAE without even Degree are labourer s and they have to compulsorily go to Buoro of Immigration and govt will enrol them through emigrate automatically
This new rule is for those who go for job through Non ECR passport s like Accountants engineers Doctors .Now even just pass 10 th STD also get Non ECR passport s
There are many cases who go to jobs through Non ECR to Yemen ,Dubai etc then land up in trouble get jailed etc etc
Govt of India is bound to bring them back as their families back in India complain to ministry of external affairs .During negotiation with Foreign countries govt of India finds itself in weaker side as govt is not aware for what job the candidate went etc
As per my knowledge all these happened after 36 Indians killed in Iraq
Many Indians went to Dubai and from there went in fishing boats crossed Dubai wabters into Iran jailed etc
These points were raised in Parliament too by opposition and Govt had to go for this
Personally I feel this is making job goers to Dubai difficult .Any way as safety it's good .

Are we not looking after our parents? We should not abandon the country which gave us so much. Parents don't want money, they want their children grandchildren to stay with them.

When one person abandon his home country, where he gets free education, used all government subsidies, government facility and when grow up just leave that country and work for other country is itself a big insult. Instead of working hard here and contribute for the development of the nation, pay tax, participate in democratic process and vote, just migrating leaving all family and well wishers is itself a big insult.

where he gets free education - NO MORE GOOD EDUCATION FOR FREE
all government subsidies - ITS NOT FOR ALL
government facility - ONLY FOR POLITICIANS
when grow up - HAD NO CHOICE
just leave that country - HAD NOT OTHER OPTION
Instead of working hard here and contribute for the development of the nation - PLEASE CHECK THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF NRI
pay tax - PAYING TAX IN BOTH THE COUNTRIES
participate in democratic process and vote - TO BECOME THEIR SLAVES
migrating leaving all family and well wishers is itself a big insult - TAKING CARE OF FAMILY MORE THAN WHAT YOU CAN IMAGINE.
